Contender for Worst Movie of 2013

After seeing the trailer which encapsulates all mayor action sequences, I believe this has got the potential of being the worst picture of the year. The dialogue looks like it has been written by a 9-year old, the cgi looks awful and Keanu should start doing movies with Nicolas Cage. I mean bad-acting wise, those two are just unbeatable. And how the hell did they manage to piss away 175 million dollars on this? At least the director should feel like the luckiest man on the planet, being somebody with no feature film experience getting a budget like that. Bombs away !

People allow emotions to cloud their judgement too much. It is such a common intuition in most, driven by the subconscious mind. Where reasoning fails, emotions overwhelm. Classic key to a miserable human being.

This movie isn't even out yet. You judge an entire movie based on a 2 minutes trailer? You shouldn't feel sorry for Keanu. Sure, he's one of the more humble class A celebrities in Hollywood, but he's still making millions of dollars from his movies. He got paid 15million dollars for each of the Matrix sequels. Why are you sorry for him? Not to mention, The Matrix has immortalized him as 'Neo'.

Another poster said he was excited till he saw Keanu Reeves was in the movie. Again, meh.

Keanu's latest projects have been based highly on Asian Cinema. He just directed Man of Tai Chi - which features some key Action figures from Asia. He's working with a lot of Asian names again on this one.

The guy is trying his best to cross cultures with a nice touch. Too many Asia meets Hollywood movies rely heavily on Western cinematography. Shanghai Noon is no exception.

Here's what I have to say. If you don't want to watch it then don't watch it. Don't buy the ticket. If it is THAT bad, don't even bother pirating it.

Go to a page on IMDB that has a movie you like, and share productive talks about it. Don't go exclusively to pages of movies where you think will be the worst of the year (especially just from the trailer), to elaborate on negativity.

Surely, there are things in life you enjoy. Focus on that.

EDIT: Just checked, and he made 15% gross from the sequels as well. That means The Matrix Trilogy earned him a total of 260 Million Dollars. Yes, $260,000,000 - From the Matirx Trilogy.

Not bad for a "bad actor".

I sure hope that pales in comparison to what Hugo Weaving made, because he did a hell of alot more for the series than Keanu did.

Whoa!

Riveting tale.

If you've heard of it, it's already too mainstream for me.

looks like the only thing in common with the original is the number 47

Not the worst of the year, but definitely a bad one. I can agree with your first point; watching the trailer, I cringed at every word of dialogue, which sounded as if it'd been lifted from a book of action cliches (a book that would probably only be four pages long). I think the director just wanted to *beep* all over the original story by turning it into another 3000 spinoff.

The CGI, on the other hand, looks pretty marvelous. Believe it or not, it is amazingly difficult to create such grand, magnificent images, and CGI artists rarely seem to get the credit they deserve. I don't see the sense in condemning this computer animation just because it's not as utterly perfect as something better. You've got some pretty strict standards, Mr. Everything-Has-To-Be-Top-Notch-Or-It-Sucks. If the 47 Ronin effects is awful, the effects in The Fellowship of the Ring was downright atrocious.

R.I.P. Pete Postlethwaite.

Very well said. CGI goes a long way into contributing to the quality of a movie, but it always seems to be destined to be criticized and dumped as the worst thing in the movie.

I think I can pretty much guarantee that this film will be better than After Earth. In fact, I can pretty much guarantee that every films released the rest of the year through will be better than After Earth.

Still Shooting With Film!

I don't like KR- when he gets hie face out of tits, blue eyes, and his mother who hold Amanda's hand and isolates himself he won't have a word to say. Who on earth has their GF hold their mother's hand. Sorry dude, I am a single mom and I would do things a lot differently. I don't like you, never did. You know that hun, go with blondie who hold mommy's hand..... weak man, to say the least.

Jennifer Syme, I have no idea who she is- she was strong and would have never held your mother's hand. She got it- she was creative and if she had been blessed she would have never met you. Her mind was wired- to be creative. May she - somewhere be a part of all of our lives. She had something to say- she would have written - something amazing. When your drug *beep* hold mommies hand it tells me that you never knew what a real woman is. Mark my words she won't dance on tables- she will be hidden.

well, it is the point of a trailer to give you an impression of what a movie will be, look and feel like. so yeah, OP is right: this one *looks* like a major turd.

I tend to be picky... I hammered Looper for its' plot holes and bad script relentlessly while everyone else was busy praising it, for a recent example... and I thought the 47 Ronin trailer looked great. Reminded me of Ninja Scroll. I tend to prefer movies with good dialogue and acting, and admittedly, this doesn't look like one of those movies. It looks like an epic story with some mind blowing visuals and fight scenes... I can deal with that.

Keanu has been the lead in some amazing movies, and even if his range is limited, this movie seems to fall within that range, and he's only supposed to be part Japanese, which allows him to look like anything. I don't see there being an issue on either count.

I'm not seeing an artistic masterpiece, but I am seeing a visually arresting, fascinating action movie that goes out of the box quite a long ways.
