Is this confirmed to be a sequel?

I hope it's a spinoff. Sam Riami didn't direct this and Bruce Campbell isn't returning and I'd hate if they counted this at the 4th film in the series. I'd accept it as a spinoff.

Its a standalone film with the "Book of the Dead" as the catalyst. Sam Riami is "co writer" and executive producer.
I.e very much involved. Not a sequel or a spinoff.

During the scoring process in Denmark the film was shown and scored out of sequence but apparently RISE borrows heavily from Demons 2:

Including deadite #demon" children. The film was deemed bloody but was missing CGI during the scoring prosess.

Sounds good. I really didn't want this to be a part 4. I can live with this being a standalone film.

What do you mean part 4? It is either part 2 or part 5

It's a completely different from the Ash story and timeline.

It had the Bruce Campbell groovy cameo so it's canon!

I own all four movies and the TV show, but the 2013 movie is my favourite of the franchise so far.
