Who are some other historic figures you would like to see get the big epic treatment?

I'd say we are overdue for a serious Custer movie. The 1990 miniseries "Son of the Morning Star" was phenomenal, but a huge movie would be way better.

A more obscure figure who's life would definitely merit a movie was Alexander William Doniphan, who led a ragtag army of Missourian volunteers to Mexico in the Mexican-American War. His force consisted of a couple of hundred poorly-equipped backwoodsmen who defeated several huge Mexican armies AND the Navajo tribe with minimal casualties, and engaged in the longest military march since the Anabasis of the Ancient Greek era. I find it honestly surprising that Hollywood never tackled this story back in the '50s or '60s.

Hitler? Or is it too soon?

I remember reading a very good historical novel about Hitler's life in the early 2000s. "Fuhrer" by Allan Prior.

It would be an intriguing film, to be sure, but no doubt it would be the most controversial film ever. I think the rule with Hitler is isolated incidents from his life as in "Der Untergang" are OK to dramatize, but a ful-fledged biopic would be seen as glorifying him to the more simplistic elements of the moviegoing world.

John Horse

That would be very interesting. I don't think Hollywood has touched the Seminole Wars since the 1950s. John Horse's African ancestry would be a good excuse for modern Hollywood to interpret his story.

It would be like Oppenheimer only about the Internet. Two men who created things with the power to destroy humanity.

I think that was Al Gore, but let's add him to the list.

In all seriousness

Diogenes the Cynic - That could be a great biopic in the hands of the right director.

Regulus and the Bagradas Dragon - This one isn't exactly about 1 historical figure, and it's dubious as to how historically valid it is, however it would be a phenomenal film, especially if Ridley Scott directed it.

A big budget Hernan Cortes movie would be amazing.

It was done beautifully in 1947--"Captain from Castille". The casting of Cesar Romero might seem odd, but he was great in the role. Unfortunately, the movie ends just as Cortez and his men were setting off on the final push to Tenochtitlan.

Alexander was done by Oliver Stone but, even though I don't think that film is as bad as others act like it is, the real man still deserves a better treatment of his life.
