Nic Cage starring in Remake!

I just saw in interview on tv with nic cage. hes said he is starting work on a remake. he will be staring in it. is this movie any good? it will probably be better now without the subtitles. i will wait for the remake. any one have any idea what character he will be playing? is there any action in the movie? can't wait for the remake!

The original is one of the most perfect films I have ever seen - the chemistry between the actors was astounding - it is subtle and builds. Sadly Mr Cage doesn't do subtle, nor does he build. He has an acting style that is all mannerism and shouting. Half the time he sounds as if he is complaining to a particularly dense sales person in a store. Even if you are not someone who generally watches subtitled films, I urge you to give this a go - you won't even notice after a while that it's subtitled. The remake will never achieve the standard of this one.

No *beep* way! Gosh, I can see how it would go in the remake and it is awful. And Nicholas Cage? What the hell?

reply

Better without the subtitles? What a pig ignorant thing to say. Infuriating.

I'm sick of Hollywood remaking foreign films that aren't even a decade old (The Lives of Others, Let the Right One In, Brothers, etc) Just shows an incredible amount of lazyness on Hollywood's part and on the part of the people the remake will be geared towards *cough*the people who say it will be better without the subtitles*cough*

Subtitles, a foreign location and a dialect you can't understand are not your enemies

reply

At least now I can say I saw the original version first :)

Hollywood cannot have people thinking that foreign films are better than the likes of Real Steel and Captain America, people might get this crazy idea that the majority of these "Blockbusters" with advertising budgets larger than the entire budget of an average foreign release are actually garbage that they can do without. Never let a good story get in the way of making more money.

If they make a remake of a movie it kills 2 birds with one stone since as well as not having their industry undermined with excellent foreign film they can hit the ground running with a blueprint in front of them. The more actors and punters who support the constant remakes and pointless trilogies the more remakes of excellent 3 year old movies we will get, each one taking the place of something fresh.

If I want to watch trash I just watch some old flick with Arnie or some other clown in it, at least some oldies can be funny and nostalgia gets you through the bad parts.

End rant

I'm often not a fan of remakes.

But this was a great movie and a great story ... and practically no one has seen it, judging from the overall box office. So why not remake it so that more people are exposed to it? Just as long as the author of the book is on board with the remake, benefits from it, and the movie lives up to the author's vision.

But...Nic Cage? Even when he is playing a serious dramatic role, he is comedic.
There are so many subtleties in the performance by Ricardo Darin. Nic Cage is the worst of choices for a remake. So why? I am guessing Nic Cage has bought the rights for the remake.

did they give the remake yet?
