I agree, am I missing something deep and meaningful in this film? I'd really like to hear something by someone other then how it is brilliant or how I'm crazy for not thinking it's the best performance of Woody's life.

The biggest problem with Defendor was that it was advertised as a comedy. It Was Not One.
A look at psychiatric issues of abandonment coupled with the desire of a lonely and abused mentally handicapped not-quite-grown man-child does not deserve to be miss-billed as such.
Great movie, once you realize that the movie producers and ad salesmen were lying and misleading you into thinking it was something it wasn't.
