Why not just have it take place...

During the zombie outbreak. The best part of Army of the Dead was the opening title sequence. When the zombies were infecting Las Vegas.

Since it's a prequel, Why not just have a heist movie take place during a zombie outbreak? Trying to execute a heist & escape a city being overtaken by zombies.

Seriously though, the concept is pretty solid & fun. But the execution is anything but that

reply

According to the plot description, it DOES take place during the zombie outbreak. "The early stages of the zombie apocalypse" is supposedly the exact setting for this prequel.

I agree that the best part of Army of the Dead was the opening title sequence, which certainly appeared to me as a montage showcasing the early stages of the outbreak. So unless I'm missing something, I don't really understand your complaint.

I think OP may have thought this was just gonna be an ordinary heist film because the word dead or zombie wasn't in the title.

Shit, this movie is gonna bomb isn't it cause people don't even pay attention to the synopsis lol.

reply

The zombies are mentioned but don't play a major part in the plot. Like, 'hey, you know there are zombies over there." The zombies are only confined to Las Vegas

This one takes place "across Europe". I knew what the film was about. I didn't just come here to rant/vent or anything like that

Just disappointed with the direction they went on, that's all.

I enjoyed it but it felt like the tacked on zombie element could have been skipped entirely

This felt like an Ocean's 11 rip-off that was sitting on a shelf somewhere for 15 years and someone at Netflix picked it up and connected some dots

Not a bad movie though, pretty good fun in fact

reply

It takes place in Europe. The zombie outbreak is in Vegas. It is mentioned or acknowledged cause it's part of a "cinematic universe"

And I'm not complaining, I'm just a bit disappointed

reply

Well I apologize for mistakenly referring to your expression of disappointment as a complaint. Semantics aside, the fact remains that the film DOES take place during the early stages of the outbreak. And since the tagline reads "More safes. Less zombies", that would imply at least SOME zombies are involved. If your only complaint--er, "disappointment" is that the film doesn't take place in Vegas, your OP was not very clear in that.

reply

I highly doubt zombies will have any interaction with the main characters. Dieter didn't even know how to kill a zombie before the Vegas heist.

reply

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

reply

True. I'm looking forward to it either way.

reply

I disagree sir!!!!

the best part was the kitchen scene. I consider it one of the most tense best choreographed fight scenes ive ever watched.

its an 11/10 in a film thats a 6/10 IMO

reply

Wasn't executing a heist and escaping a city overtaken by zombies the exact plot of the first movie? You want that same thing again?

reply

The actual reason is because that would require a 10x budget.

reply

Then it would be exactly like AotD.
