The Irishman was not a masterpiece, De Niro and Pacino were miscast
De Niro's and Pacino's old age ruined any chance The Irishman had of being a masterpiece. The real Jimmy Hoffa looked and acted nothing like Pacino's portrayal and with De Niro's role, he just looked too old and short to be convincing as Frank Sheeran, especially De Niro's very unconvincing and laughable grocery store clerk beat up scene. Both actors also have very strong Italian features (face and voice) and were not suitable for the parts they portrayed. The lousy de-aging cgi was a huge mistake and makes the movie unwatchable on repeat viewing. I will admit that Scorsese made the perfect choice for casting Joe Pesci as Russ Bufalino. Pesci was performance was excellent.
Goodfellas and Casino were masterpieces.
