Just saw "Iron Man 3" for the first time on TV (shameful, I know...) and I've got to agree - it's a far better film than I ever thought it would be.
The plot-device of the Mandarin being an actor hired to be the public face of evil, preserving the anonymity of the real puppet-master was very topical. Love it when what you think is going to be a standard superhero popcorn-muncher turns out to be a cut above, with a bit of sly satirical commentary on real world current events thrown in.
Robert Downey Jr is still completely engaging, too. I laughed more at moments like that "we're connected" bit with the kid than I've laughed at some supposed comedy movies - and it was largely due to Downey Jr's performance and persona.
The film is also absolutely non-stop. Don't want to be vulgar (!) but I really needed a pee about a half-hour in, and there was literally no good moment to leave the room for a minute! Didn't help that I was watching it live on a channel with no ad-breaks. But the film had no down-time, and no obvious "filler" scenes that could be safely missed. Every moment of it was delivering story, action, or genuinely amusing character interplay - all of it entertaining, none of it missable.
