Warrior top 250???

I value and appreciate the imbd top 250 very much. For the most part I agree with most the movies on the list, maybe not the particular order but most the movies in this list deserve to be there, and most of the movies that I think should be in there are 7.7.-7.9 which is reassuring to know that some other movies I love are that close to being there. Warrior is NOT one of these movies. It is an average movie, not bad but not amazing. This movie is a 6.8-7.5 range which is a GOOD movie. There is nothing wrong with that score a lot of great movies have scores like this, but TOP 250?????? HOW?????? Maybe I was just expecting something much better because of the rating but I don't know I was disappointed. Rocky is a very similar movie and Rocky is in every way more superior. I can't believe this movie is higher rated than Rocky. IT'S ROCKY!!!! Probably the greatest sports/underdog movie ever made. The script, the acting, the emotion, the characters in Rocky is almost perfect. I really hope this movie slides more and more down the top 250 until it is gone. I'm not trying to be a dick and bash this movie but the top 250 is sacred to film buffs, it's a great guideline for us to find new movies to watch and compare and discuss which movie is better. Warrior should never be in a conversation of this caliber. Warrior right now is close to movies like Platoon, Trainspotting, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Into the Wild on the top 250 and all of these murder Warrior in every aspect of filmaking. I hate to be a dick to loyal fans of this movie but I can't help it. If someone came up to me and told me Warrior is better than Platoon I would not trust their judgment on movies really. I don't even think this movie deserves a fair judgement for me to discuss WHY I DID NOT ENJOY THE MOVIE! It's an okay film but a pure joke for the top 250.

Well the IMDb rating system is utterly flawed so I have no idea why anyone would care about what was in there or not.

It's pretty easy to see why this film has such a high rating. For all the talk of it relying on sport film cliches and some oddities in the writing in the end it was a pretty well made film (on a sort of technical level) and its top notch performances gave it quite an emotional punch.

I'm pretty sure most of the people watching are rating it so highly because of how captivating the final fight was. It had been built up really well and I'm sure most people were pretty gripped by it. When I saw the brothers fighting I wasn't thinking "What about the stupid montage earlier on in the film" or "Why did the family all fall out" or "Rocky is so much better" or "This fight wouldn't be allowed in real life" I was just caught in the moment and it was a very satisfying moment. Most of us have empathy and watch films to be taken in by them and to be moved. So for the average movie goer they are rating the experience they had from the film on a visceral level and they are doing it pretty much immediately after watching the film. So it gets a high score.

It's a niche/cult film for a niche audience of MMA maniacs that wanted a movie about MMA. It's falling very quickly in the top 250 ranking. It might not even be on it in a year because people who don't care about MMA are watching it now.
But I guarantee you that Hollywood noticed its immense popularity among this group and will crank out even more films like this.
I'm not really a fight fan, but I prefer boxing over this stuff. Boxers could beat the hell out of any class of fighters.

reply

In boxing? Sure, but they would lose in any other martial art.

You couldn't be more wrong: 2 years and this is still top 150.

reply

No, they really wouldn't

I am surprised why so many people all of a sudden are taking issue with the cliches that were "used" by the film, now that it has entered the mainstream consciousness. Part of the appeal of the film, especially for me, was how beautifully the film worked around those cliches so that you didn't even mind them, and in fact were genuinely affected by them, when they came along. Provided you didn't have a giant stick up your ass at that point of course.

In all fairness, though, the film was never really about the story. It was the unbelievable acting on display here and great execution of certain scenes that really propelled the film way beyond what its fairly run of the mill story ever allowed. I mean, on paper, that hotel scene with Tom Hardy and Nick Nolte sounds pretty corny, but I challenge anyone to sit through that scene without having to hold back tears.

And it is beyond me how anyone can say with a straight face that Rocky was any better than this. Rocky was a cliche fest from start to finish and unashamedly so. That final fight scene was so ridiculous and unrealistic that I turn off the TV every time I get to that point. I keep thinking if anyone ever taught Rocky how to actually block punches during a fight in his entire boxing career, because otherwise in the real world his boxing career and even his life would have been a very short one. And the acting, while not terrible, was nowhere near the level in this movie. I'm really glad Warrior is rated higher than Rocky in the top 250, proof for me that IMDB's rating system really does work!

You are free to disagree with me, but you will almost certainly not be able change my mind.

reply

I disagree 100%. I think this movie was an all-around masterpiece far exceeding "Rocky". People tend to defend movies like Rocky because they are classics, and they don't want to believe that any other movie can surpass it. You speak of cliches, Rocky is one of the most cliche movies ever made.

reply

I agree. I didn't expect this movie to actually be so good. I was expecting a fighting movie like undistputed 2 or 3 but this was more than that. I'm suprised people defend a movie like Rocky that is just one big cluster *bleep* of a movie. This deserves to be on the top 250. Some say it's because of some actor... I for one don't rate movies based on what actors they have in it. I base it on how good i felt the movie was. How good the acting was, What the story was like and of course how big of an impact it gave me and this movie touched me on an emotional level that i havn't felt in any movie for a while.

This just earned it's place in my favourites and in my own top 50 movies.

Posts like this are hysterical. If you post 7 movies you think SHOULD be on list, someone else could easily think that list is terrible.

reply

I would have read the rest of your post but you already shoot yourself in the foot with your first sentence, bro

"I value and appreciate the imbd top 250 very much. For the most part I agree with most the movies on the list"

LMAO

and I don't even think this movie is worth 8.3

No it doesn't but you can't bash 250 too bad for about 25 movies that shouldn't be on there at all, that still steals 225 pretty solid picks.... but I was just trolling on Warrior for the most part, I watched it hearing so many good things and was extremely disappointed afterwards I had to vent.

To the OP: Use paragraphs, please. Especially online, you can leave an empty space every 3-5 lines. I agree with your point but didn't bother to read your post cause it looks a mess.

reply

So you're basically saying "This shouldn't be in the top 250 because I didn't like it"
How about you stop being so full of yourself.

Just because you're too stupid to understand it, doesn't mean it's a plot hole
