Flop like most things with GoT actors.
They fucked up there so what do people expect?
shareAnd you've seen the movie?
shareI saw it and it was dumb as fuck. They tried to make it serious, but you cannot have a serious movie where the main character is a midget with the reach of a 10 year old and then pretend he is also the best swordsman in the land... It's fucking impossible. Go to any play ground and give a sword to a little kid and and then challenge the kid to a duel.. You would slice the little fucker wide open no matter how talented he was because the reach of a swordsman is a big part of the success of failure fo the swordsman... just like boxing. You get a fucking midget with a 20 inch reach and put them up against a full sized boxer with a 30 inch reach and guess which one will get the shit beat out of them... That keeps going through your mind when you watch this movie and they have some of the damned fight scenes... It just makes you laugh, except it isn't a comedy and you aren't supposed to be laughing.
shareDo you think you could prevail over a 4' 4" little person who knew how to wield a sword? I no nothing about sword play, I would not pit myself against anyone, no matter their height if they knew their way around swords.
Just because the man who insulted Cyrano at the play wore a sword did not mean he could defend himself with it. Where in the film did it say Cyrano was the best with a sword?
I enjoyed the film.
It would be just like when you see someone much bigger hold their hand out and stop much smaller person from attacking them by placing their hand on the smaller person's head so they can't reach the larger person with their fists... only if you had swords the little midget would be skewered before he could reach the other person. I am certain I would prevail over Dinklage, even when if it was a younger version that was at his prime. In addition to the height advantage I have normal sized legs which means I can also move better when using a sword. I've done enough fencing to know that not only do you have an advantage with reach but also with mobility and I've seen midgets move their stubby little legs also make them a sitting duck with a sword.
shareSo you're saying that a shorter person with less reach can't go inside? Is this why a shorter boxer can't prevail over a taller one?
I don't think you know what you're talking about.
It is one thing when a boxer has a reach that is a couple of inches shorter than the other boxer.. but we aren't talking about a couple of inches. Dinklage has achondroplasia so his reach is closer to a foot short than a normal person's. This is not the body of a normally proportioned human that is simply 18 inches shorter than a normal person... this is someone that has legs 50% shorter than normal and arms 35% shorter but a body of normal proportions. It means the reach is substantially less even than his height would suggest. The reality is a kid that was 4 foot 5 inches would have a longer reach than Dinklage because they would have normal sized arms in relation to his body, Dinklage doesn't have that advantage he is at an even greater disadvantage.
shareAccording to Wikipedia the original Cyrano was known as a "novelist, playwright, epistolarian, and DUELIST."
shareDuelist is a person who duels. It does not mean they were the best or good at it.
shareOh, come on. They MENTION it. So he did it more than once. And survived every single time. That makes him at least better than his rivals...
shareSo were his rivals good at dueling?
shareI can't tell. At least they thought they were good?
shareA person is not good with a sword just because they carry one. Just as a person who carries a gun might not know how to shoot it well at all.
It is all theatrical sword play anyway. We are expected to believe that actors are skilled (or shown not to be) with whatever weapons they use.
Sure there were also posers who carried a sword just for the looks. But as with carrying a gun: You should be aware of the possible consequences...
shareDo you rate films by how much money they make or whether or not you enjoyed watching them? Unless you invest in the film, why would you care if it made or lost money?
I saw the film, I enjoyed it. Good adaptation of the 1897 play
Snobbery won't get you respect.
shareBut why do you care if a film makes money?
shareWhy are you posting?
shareI'd like your opinion on this film. Is it bad only because is has a GoT actor in it?
shareIt is bad because it has a fucking midget in the title role. It may have been average to slightly above if it had more realistic casting but you can't overcome the stupidity of a midget swordsman.
