Is this a children's movie? No. Is it really too hard for Americans to watch a movie with subtitles?
shareYour generalisations are unneeded; some subtitled films, I have watched, were either mistranslated, complete lines were missing, or the original voice actors were bland in tone (no variation, including between the different original voice actors).
So what if someone wants to watch this, or another film dubbed.

It's probably about as hard to read sub-titles as it would be to ignore the fact that the dub exists.

I agree. I find foreign movies much more enjoyable with subtitles, rather than having them poorly dubbed.
no its true, most americans are to stupid and lazy to read subtitles thats why they feel the need remake american versions of foreign films. not only is the film remade so americans(whos median iq is boderline retarded) can watch it with out words floating on the bottom of the screen(stupid black lines from the wide screen)but i have seen foreign movies remade to fit americans "taste"...has anyone seen the remake of the vanashing ***PUKE*** but i will say dubs do come in handy for me. i need glasses and its an option i use often since i like to fall asleep to movies.

Has everyone forgotten that the English language evolved in ENGLAND, and that as England went out colonizing and conquering, the language came right along with them?
Some of the largest, most literate and prosperous countries in the world have English as their primary (if not native) language. Yet, the US gets bashed whenever this argument comes up as if some survey goes out around the world every time a foreign film is released and Americans vote for overdubs while every other English speaking country votes for subtitles.
Ridiculous.
A lot of Americans prefer subtitles in spite of the fact that we're stupid, lazy Americans.
And I'm sure some of the millions of English-speaking people in countries APART from the US may just prefer overdubs, though I don't know why anyone would.
It's not a nationalistic sort of issue.

Here is a take from one American. I usually don't mind watching dubbed films. However, I like to immerse myself in the film to get the full experience. The scenery in this movie was stunning. For example, when Sara's boyfriend took a break on his snowmobile to snack and drink, the landscape was incredible and kind sets up the contrast between the beautfy of the surroundings and the impending horror.
Sometimes reading every bit of chatter isn't necessary and the movie might cut around too quickly to notice something sitting on the table. Or what a character
is doing int he background.
But hey, if you don't like reading dubbed movies, no harm.
And no need to call out all Americans.
Just my take.
It was dubbed in other languages for other Countries, so whats the problem?
