Star Spangled Banner vs La Marseillaise

La Marseillaise was sung by opera star Axelle Saint-Cirel. She sang it note for note as composed. It was a beautiful, stirring moment no matter one's country of origin.

H.E.R. sang her "rendition" of the Star Spangled Banner wearing sunglasses at night.

Her rendition of it for sure. Good guitar licks though. A reminder of Hendrix who unfortunately died in Paris.

French opera singer vs American R&B singer…

It's been the rule, and has become tradition over the past few decades: "The Star-Spangled Banner" will never be sung straight. It will always be sung hillbilly style, trailer-trash style, rock-style, or some lowest-common-denominator style.

I'm afraid you are right. Brass instruments, such as horns, trombones, trumpets, and tubas, give off a powerful sound that invites glorious feelings. The drums keep a steady and strong beat and it is all meant to sound grand.

This is a tradition that I miss greatly. An anthem, by definition, is a song of praise, gladness and rousing patriotism.

Now, we must be satisfied that at least almost everyone is standing.

I get change. Great, break/street dancing is now an Olympic sport. Skate boarding gave us some very welcome sign language.

I would prefer to keep the Star Spangled Banner in its original, inspiring, form.
