I thought woke goes broke?

What happened to that theory? Lol

reply

It was naturally going to do well in it's opening weekend. Let's see how well this movie has legs for moviegoers to go to this over and over at 2 hours and 40 minutes

reply

"It's not woke". "Only the opening weekend"

Y'all keep moving the goalposts 😂

reply

But it's true though. No moving goal posts about it. Anyone who's followed box office knows this movie is going to need legs to succeed

reply

I think it’s going to do very well.

reply

It's almost like audiences just go to watch movies based off other reasons other than its "woke" content or lack thereof.

reply

Crazy concept, isn't it?

reply

Woke usually appeals to (or is more tolerated by) women, thus female-centric films (and media in general) that are also woke tend to have a higher chance of success. This also had a built in audience that would go see it no matter what, so it also had that going for it. See also: Barbie.

But most things that tend to be woke still fail, especially when they're not tied to any existing and popular creative properties. And thank God for that.

reply

Whoever came up with that go woke go broke theory was coping so hard , that he forgot how dumb people are. They will watch any slop that is well promoted. So no, going woke does not mean broke.

reply

Grande is woke in her personal life. But did this movie have woke elements?

reply

There's a black woman playing a character that's always been played by a white blonde . That's considered woke these days.

reply

I heard it needs to make $375 million just to break even. Currently, it's made about $378 million worldwide.

In other words, it seems to be leaning more towards broke than awesomely successful.
