just saw the teaser...
and I'm still skeptical about the whole idea of adapting a broadway musical into two part movies. Not because of the race-swapping, mind you, but still.

shareI'm skeptical of it to, but because of the race-swapping.
shareSo what? A black actress playing a character who has green skin is definitely not a case of race swapping. If this outrages you then don't see the movie. Problem solved.
shareAt least she has the voice for Elphaba. Besides a black woman already played her on Broadway. Alexia Khadime played her from 2009 -2010 full time and I think she's back in the role again currently.
shareWhat a moron. What race is the Wicked Witch of the West 🙄
shareI think they cast her because she was black and not because she was the best fit for the part. Original was white obviously and did a really great job, plus she had the physical characteristics of a creepy old witch. I'm not trying to disparage the actress who is playing the role in this film but with the makeup she looks like Shrek.
shareWell I can't argue with your opinion, you are allowed to think whatever you want but I think that is a ridiculous thing to believe. With all of the money involved in film making and television they aren't going to hire a lead actress just because she's black.
You obviously haven't been paying attention to the world.
shareI know nothing about Wicked and I thought it looked cool. My sister is a massive Wicked fan and she was very upset.
shareWait? So this film will be a musical?! UGH. And I was getting so excited about it. My anticipation for this film just dropped like a rock.
shareIt's based on a pretty successful Broadway musical, yes. I think Wicked might have kicked off the trend of reimagining iconic villains as misunderstood or the real victims.
shareWell, if it’s an actual film with a musical number here and there then I might still give it a chance (like Wonka).
But if it’s just a two-hour song like Les Miserables then it’s a HARD PASS.
Considering it's a 2 parter it will probably be closer to a 4 hour song that you'll have to pass on.
shareI appreciate you letting me know this ahead of time. I’ll skip it.
shareAlthough to be fair, I think the stage show is only 2 1/2 hours, with some talking involved, unless they are adding a bunch of new songs, it's might not all be singing. There is a lot from the book that didn't make the musical, so maybe they are adding some of that stuff in.
shareBroadway musicals tend to be pretty heavy on the music, yeah. I haven't seen it, but they'll likely be as much singing as dialogue.
shareSoon as I heard that "souled-up" version of "Gravity" I was like "Nope". Reminds me of the same trash they did to Little Mermaid.
