Whirling To Great $72M Opening – UPDATE $80M!

https://deadline.com/2024/07/box-office-twisters-1236015127/

Friday midday: Yeah, after preview numbers like that, there’s no way that Amblin/Universal/Warner Bros‘ Twisters is settling for a $50 million+ opening. More like $72 million at 4,151 theaters after a massive $31M first day including previews. By the way, that’s 76% above the start of the first 1996 movie ($41M, adjusted for inflation). This a great palette cleanser before Deadpool & Wolverine conquers the world next weekend.

If these numbers stick for Twisters, that’s the 25th-best domestic opening ever for the month of July.

Friday morning: Forecasts were at a $50M+ opening, but with this movie doing business in the heartland, it would not be shocking to see it raise to $60M.

Impressive debut. Better than I expected. Then again, I guess there is a clamoring for disaster movies and people just didn't realize it. I guess the last major release in that genre was 'Greenland' and that was in 2020.

Yeah, it's annoying but I have to go this weekend because Deadpool & Wolverine is gonna steal all the big screens. That should help inflate the opening.

Went to an imax theater tonight. 300 seats. sold out. Wasnt expecting that.

Pleased its doing well. Disaster movies used to be a summer tentpole. Hollywood shouldn't abandon the genre

If anyone's interested, I reviewed the movie on my youtube channel. Appreciate any feedback. Trying to improve -

SATURDAY NIGHT: Universal/Warner Bros/Amblin’s Twisters is hitting an $80M opening per sources tonight after a $27M Saturday, which was -16% off Friday/previews $32.2M. That’s a better Saturday than Oppenheimer a year ago ($26.2M), Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire ($26.4M), ...
