This might be a bit deep in the weeds for some, but in this time of a vast majority of movies being shot on digital, "Twisters" was shot on Kodak Motion Picture Film. Panavision Millennium XL, ARRIFELX 435 and 235 35mm film cameras were used, as was KODAK VISION3 50D Color Negative Film 5203 for day exteriors, VISION3 250D Color Negative Film 5207 for the interior car work and VISION3 500T Color Negative Film 5219 for the film's low-light/nighttime sequences.

I like that the DP thought they should include "nodding donkeys in the oilfields" in the movie. I'm sure they are fine, but they should also show a couple of flying cows.

So in addition to having that authentic film look, they also wanted the lenses to be less than optimal. And as I understand the digital effects and CGI must match those imperfect lenses and film grain, color characteristics etc. More work for the VFX guys!

"I actively wanted the looks of the Anamorphic lenses as they had been originally made, with all of their individual flaws, circles of confusion, soft and distorted edges, to underscore that Time Life authenticity in the filmed image."

When I read this I thought "Good, more current movies should do this, I don't like how modern movies make the actors skin look gray." Then I watched the video and the actors still look gray in many shots.

they still make that stuff? Film?

Tarantino and Nolan still shoot all their movies on film!

Last year's Dream Scenario with Nicolas Cage was also shot on film, 16mm.

I actually came here to post this. It's pretty interesting. I'm glad that some filmmakers are continuing to shoot on film.

This is a nice promo as well. It makes me a little more hyped for the movie.

I agree ! Im seeing this cuz of that.

Do people realize how fucking stupid that is? As someone mentioned, grain in just some parts looks fake.
Films negatives are scanned and stays digital. Editing, VFX and CG are digital. Consumer is digital.
99.9% screens are Digital Cinema 2K or 4K, 1.9:1. How many theaters still have 35m or 65mm?

Flim is almost always a superior format , i prefer movies not looking like iphone videos
