When are Americans going to realise they can't do comedy?

Leave it to us Brits, eh?

Nice try, have a cookie for that, but in the end. This is the End failed miserably like 90% of other American comedies. You just don't get subtlety or comedic timing. American comedies are about as subtle as a brick through the window.

reply

That's a mouthful to say when The World's End sucked.

reply

I thought it was pretty good but that's just me.

reply

I agree. It was mildly amusing and that was about it.

reply

You guys peaked with Monty Python.

My plan was to kiss her with every lip on my face!

Me, I prefer watching a film that makes me feel a little more enligthened and intelligent when it's over,

"Me, I prefer watching a film that makes me feel a little more enligthened and intelligent when it's over" Me, I like a comedy film to the extent that it amuses me, because (at the risk of sounding pompous) I'm already enlightened and intelligent.

reply

Yeah, well to be honest, this is not really a criteria I'm looking for in a Comedy in the first place... In a thriller or a drama, absolutely, in a comedy...

reply

Is that why British TV has The Simpsons on almost 24 hours a day. I love British comedy , American comedy is just very different it's all a matter of taste.

reply

When? Well, I'll tell ya - when you realize that you are a presumptuous narrow-minded individual. That's when. America has both good and bad comedies. Same with the Brits. How complicated is that to figure out? Go time that, pompous pr*ck.

reply

Seth Rogan, one of the creators behind this is Canadian, not American. Just saying.

I thought it was great.

reply

two of the actors in this film are Canadian...
also, Brits and North Americans have different sense of humours. That's all.

reply

I'm British and think our comedies are absolutely terrible, we made the Harry Hill movie, Keith Lemon movie, Son of Rambow, Horrid Henry, Nativity, St Trinians.

I'd take a Seth Rogen comedy anyday.

reply

Actually three are Canadian. Rogan, Baruchel, and Cera.

reply

Well The Naked Gun and Airplane are my favorite comedies and they were all American, but in general, I agree. Brits often have the funniest comedy between them and the states. I think most of that is because of the style of comedy however. Britain enjoys satire a lot more than America does, and that makes it smarter and a lot more satisfying.

Apart from the films I mentioned earlier, which are also satire hence their reverence, America is a lot more juvenile, loud and in your face with their comedy, which does not work at all except for perhaps young teens who live off dick and fart jokes.

reply

Since the large majority of Americans descend from the British, this is a rather confusing board.

reply

Why? Both have vastly different cultures. And if you want to get technical, both the Americans and the British descended from Africa like the rest of the human race, but it's not like Africans share the same sense of humor that Americans do.

The Naked Gun and Airplane? Don't get me wrong, they are funny movies. But best comedies?

reply

I liked it enough.
