No comedy that isn't stupid? What is your definition of stupid then? Groucho Marx comedy was almost entirely quick witted improvisation, and even his dirtiest jokes tended toward insinuation rather than outright saying it. Watch Without a Clue or Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, or Clue, or hell, even the Muppets. Each of those have a "stupid" character, but the comedy is incredibly thoughtfully written.
The biggest problem with the comedy in this film is that they have to use ein-your-face comedy almost exclusively. This translates into either lowest common denominator dick jokes, or jokes that are so obvious even a monkey could get them. They made no attempt at witty or satirical or any higher level comedy and apparently assumed the target audience would be the sort that could only understand what was thrown right in their face.
Among the best scenes was the Emma Watson cameo. It was funny how one character is trying to avert the potential rape problem by bringing attention to it. All the characters are against the idea of rape, but it causes her to think that they all WANT to rape her. A couple whammy's and "fooled yous" in there and the scene ultimately worked.
Then we get the scene of "The water is right under us!" How many times does he have to explain the punchline before he thinks the audience is gonna get the joke?
