Do you agree with Roger Ebert's review of this movie?

Do you also think he has a point to make about Jennifer's vengeful actions being just as wrong as those who have assaulted her?

By the way, of course I agree the ideal outcome is always two people unharmed in the first place. But sadly, there are plenty of evil and sadistic monsters in this world who at best don't care if they hurt others and at worst, you know what it is.

Besides, weren't they also trying to kill her as well? So wasn't it a bit of self-defense on her behalf as well as vengeance?

In action movies like "Die Hard" and "Lethal Weapon", people including critics like the late Ebert almost never complain that say good guys have to fight and kill baddies rather than just arresting them or reporting them to police instead, and is the "I Spit on Your Grave" scenario much different then?

P.S. Read the comments to that review, unsurprisingly, many disagreements and controversies also arrive.

I also disagree, besides, I thought it was a decent movie and a solid 6/10 I give it, 3 stars...

But maybe one of the points a movie like this is making or can make is that often in order to fight and defeat monsters one may become partially monstrous and may need to, however briefly, descent to their level.

And they really can't help it in situations that are of true and utter despair, chaos and desperation, right?

Ebert was a clown. One of the last people you should listen to when it comes to horror movies.

Well, sticking a rifle barrel up a guys cornhole and blowing his guts and half his face off is not really self defence.
