Episode 3 ripped off the Masters Of Horror episode "Cigarette Burns"

Thats pretty much what it did, Cigarettes Burns which was an episode in the horror anthology show Masters Of Horror, heres the plot

"a movie theatre owner is hired to search for the only existing print of a film so notorious that its single screening caused the viewers to become homicidally insane."

Its not beat for beat what they did in the American Horror Stories episode but they took the basic idea of it which was about a film that was made a long time ago that caused people to go homicidally insane when watching it.

I did like the twist at the end with the guy selling it to netflix and the entire world would be able to watch it, that was pretty clever.

Haven’t seen this show yet, but John Carpenter (who I love) did the episode “Cigarette Burns”.
If you haven’t seen his earlier horror film “In The Mouth of Madness” with Sam Neill in it, you should. Same style plot but better. At least I think.
Check it out.

Yeah i've seen In The Mouth Of Madness, really creepy underrated movie.

first time I watched it, I was really high, not a good idea.

Yeah, that would be a crazy movie to watch high. I’ll have to try that out.

I was reminded of Cigarette Burns while watching the episode too. Though they had a different angle in AHS, it almost felt like a zombie thing, and not a cursed movie thing. And imo it could've done with a little more carnage and chaos, if where going with a shit-hits-the-fan scenario.

It's been a while since I've seen Cigarette Burns, but I still think of it every once in a while, and how creeped out and unsettled I felt. I'm not sure if I'll remember this AHS episode in a month... Though I don't think you can compare Carpenter (even late period Carpanter) with whoever made this epi.

Yeah Cigarette Burns really stays with you after you watch it. It is indeed very creepy and unsettling, and they do an amazing job building up the film throughout the episode, the atmospheres so creepy and the whole thing just has a feeling of dread throughout it.

You got the tortured angel thats been chained up and had its wings tore off, and its really bizarre when you see it, ah man its such an amazing episode of that anthology, anyone thats not seen it should check it out, its some of Carpenter's best work imo and something not alot of people know about.

It's a true testament of a filmmaker's ability if the thing they made still scares you years after, just by thinking about it. It's amazing how much Carpenter acheived in a single episode. I agree, more people should check it out.

I loved the Netflix ending! Definitely was expecting something but not THAT!! lol

That's what it was. When I watched it I was sure I'd seen that story somewhere before. I thought it might have been Friday the 13th series, but yes! Cigarette Burns! Thank you!
