Terrible child actor

What. The. Hell?! Judah could not even memorize his lines? He is reading cue cards on set? There wasn't anyone else they could get?

reply

First thing I noticed as well. That kid was awful!!!

reply

Yeah I agree. The problem was that the kid was so terrible and unlikable that I didn't give a crap if Ron ever reconnected with him.

reply

Agreed, the kid was terrible

You got it. That is the exact way I took it. He was supposed to be a crappy TV kid actor from the 70's/80's, which makes his delivery actually pretty funny if you get the joke.

reply

I noticed this too! I hope it was meant to be a gag, otherwise this kid needs a few acting lessons (sorry to say).

"Troubled childhood? If you consider a 9 year old kid with a 35 year old girlfriend troubled."

reply

I assume that was just part of the gag. The kid was 'terrible' in the same way all the others were- totally over the top behavior and ridiculousness. I am sure he was meant to be played that way. I thought he fit in perfectly! He acted like those overly emoting kids you see in 70's commercials. I think it made sense.

Totally agree with your response, and it's exactly what I was thinking. I think he was great - because it fit the movie and plot so well.

reply

That's a complete justification and kind of clutching at straws, he was just a bad actor.

You're absolutely right. The kid over-acted his role in perfect balance to the rest of the characters.... The movie was a hilarious satire of Fox News and Rupert Murdoch. It wasn't the greatest but it was well above average.

I hadn't thought about that, but added to the "child's" hairy arms during the piano recital, it starts to make sense. He wasn't nearly as terrible as some of the 1970s sitcoms kids I can think of, though. They should have tried harder.

reply

I agree, too. The kid was so terrible that it had to be intentional (geez, I hope so, anyway). No kid has a voice that whiny all the time.

reply

I usually hate child actors and child characters who act the way the kid did in this film, but it worked for the films favor. Every character is over the top in this and the first film. The kid was just doing the same. As soon as I saw the kid act the way he did, I knew it was intentional.

reply

Yeah he was by far the worst thing about this movie. I can't help but cringe every time he says something.

reply

The best part with the kid was when they were saying goodbye to Doby. He actually expressed an emotion and did it surprisingly well.

Otherwise yeah - his performance + a screwdriver = my eyeballs.

I can't believe this; it seems plain to me that he was SUPPOSED to be acting "terribly." The kid was unbelievably corny, intentionally...even when telling his dad to stop being a dick and go to hell, he keeps that sweet little wholesome, innocent voice and conversational tone. That bit reminded me of a scene from Family Guy or some such.
