I realize this is done a lot, but I didn't see it in the MI4 message board. Even if I missed it, so what? Here is my ranking and I would love to read yours.

MI1, loved this film back in the 90s and can still happily watch it anyday
MI4, just great fun
MI3, was awesome at the time of its release but doesn't hold up that well
MI2, too much jumping the shark

Was going to reply with my own list, but this one nailed it, with the right reasons, too.
Amazing how the series looked dead in the water after 2 and then came back just as good as ever with 3 and 4.

MI4 (thoroughly enjoyed this one, but, wish it had a stronger villain)
M13 (enjoyed the Jonthan Rhys Meyers character and exciting ending)
MI1 (intense, betrayals, exciting and loved the finale with / on the trains, but, I'm sorry Jim Phelps was the villain)
MI2 (I'm a fan of Dougray Scott, but, it just doesn't feel like an MI film)

"EEEEEEEEEEEEYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW!!! That'll do it."
MI 3 (Easily the most accessible, has a great villain, stunning locations and great stunt homages)
MI 1 (It's slow by today's standards but is still one of Brian de Palma's finest thrillers)
MI 2 (It's got a lame first half but the action in the second portion delivers somewhat)
MI: GP (Too mindless, Brad Bird shows little energy, bad fight scene choreography, forgettable villain, terrible dialogue even by action movie standards and I didn't care if anyone lived or died)

Good! I'm glad to see that SOMEBODY actually realizes and has the frigg'n BALLS to say that GP was just simply NOT really that great compared to all the rest. For all the reasons you mentioned... AND also I felt that there was just TOO much humour in this one, whereas in ALL of the others you had MUCH MUCH more of a sense of serious menace and intensity. Even ol' Tom didn't really look THAT amped to be there in this one... (and yet, the damn thing made more money than any of them... )
Cheers mate!
I now have over 7000 films; many of them very rare and OOP. I LOVE to trade. PLEASE ASK!
