Anyone else think this film feels a bit unnecessary?

Despite the references to Rambo's military days in the pictures of Stallone's instagram being very cool, is anyone else worried that this film may be unnecessary?

I remember Stallone saying that Rambo 4 would be the last one; you could tell that this was truly his intention through the overall theme of Rambo 4, including the last scene where he returns home to U.S.A in almost 30 years.

I am still eager to see Rambo Last Blood but the photos, trailer vibes and synopsis keeps throwing me off a little when I think about it.
Anyone else think the ending to Rambo 4 was the perfect ending for the character?
Do you think Last Blood has undermined Rambo 4's ending?
Or will Last Blood serve a fitting ending for the character once and for all?

P.S Still think First Blood is the best! 10/10 !!

Well i'll have to see it but yeah. I don't see how this film could possibly add anything of value to the Rambo mythos. He's just gonna run around blowing guys up for 90 minutes and then maybe die.

Your last sentence made me laugh!

"He's just gonna run around blowing guys up for 90 minutes and then maybe die."

Haha yeah I swear if this movie has meaningless violence just for the sake of Stallone to have fun as Rambo, I'd be upset. I dont mind films where it has meaningless violence but the Rambo films have always had violence for a reason...

The one thing about Stallone is that in my opinion, he has always treated his legacy characters (Rocky, Rambo) with respect. Sure Rocky 5 was slated as the worst Rocky, but I liked it for the character development and the overall story. Rambo 3 was a bit insane but by this point, Rambo was veering more towards the insane action but it still had a solid/decent story. Trautman being captured etc

It's because of his respect for his legacy characters that I have faith this might be good, but I still can't help sometimes and think this feels so unnecessary. The character should have found peace when he returned to that beautiful quiet ranch at the end of Rambo 4...

Yes, quite. (Moviechat, fuck yourself)

well if you take into account the locations.

1 =US
2 =Nam
3 ='stan
4 =Burma
5 =US

so it kind of makes sense to do this final one and set it in US

"come fill circle"

Stallone never said for sure if 4 was the last. He also said if this one does well they may do a 6th....

I think R4 was unnecessary. I really don't wanna see old man rambo fighting. Hell - Sly looks very different now - his face.... is like a comic book version of his younger days, due to too much HGH. Hell - it seems like most action film stars do crappy films after they age. Jackie Chan, Sly, Arnold - all their latest films are crap. Sly's last good film was over 20 years ago (assassins). Still, I do applaud all of these action stars for still being in shape - so perhaps these crappy films do one good thing, they motivate the actors to still stay in shape.

If anything, the new film ensures that Rambo's final note is painful. The end of Last Blood reinforces the tragedy that Rambo represents as a character. It's a very dark film, yet we do get to see him in his most functional, domesticated state at the start of the film. By the end, he's a monster who is prepared to violently kill any Mexicans who dare cross onto his property. It's the ultimate old man Rambo movie. Unapologetic, vengeful, and lonely. Not exactly necessary, but very timely.
