Tearjerk Moments?

Anyone have any of these? For me it was when Kermit sang "Pictures In My Head". So sad to see him singing about the old days and what went wrong.

reply

Rainbow Connection. The song itself has a lot of sentimental value for me to begin with but I didn't expect to see it in this movie.

When the curtain came up and Kermit was strumming that banjo, my jaw dropped.
Wait, I recognize... Are they... Oh my God, they're singing Rainbow Connection. I'm seeing Rainbow Connection ON THE BIG SCREEN!

Then add the context of the movie and... Niagra Falls.

PULL THE STRINGS! PULL THE STRINGS!

reply

Oh my God, that's exactly what happened to me. My little girl was sitting on my lap and I was thinking, How am I going to hide the fact that I'm crying to this song?

reply

I am right with both of you...Those few strums of the banjo were like a sentimental punch to the stomach with nostalgic knuckledusters. The water works started immediately.

reply

Oh god, I know! I did the same thing. for a few precious minutes, it was like I was 10 again. it brought back my childhood in a way few things do, and I just teared up.

reply

I have loved the Rainbow Connection since I was a kid. And I still love it today for its beautiful lyrics.

Yep, my mascara started running profusely the moment Kermit let loose with "Why are there so many songs about rainbows....":)

-RAINBOW CONNECTION...especially when all the Muppets joined in.

-The Muppets seeing the final amount raised from the telethon and their reaction to it.

-The speech Kermit gave the gang before they opened the door to leave the theater.

-And when the Muppets left the theater for the last time and the crowd was outside.

reply

Pictures in My Head was definitely the most emotional moment for me, along with Rainbow Connection and the scene where the Muppets leave the theatre and unexpectedly find the street outside packed with fans.

reply

I agree. When Kermit walked into the old theatre and you hear him from years ago mentioning Bob Hope, I got emotional. The music and everything about that scene.

reply

I also loved hearing "Together Again."

reply

Rainbow Connection and, of course, when they opened the doors and the entire flippin' world was waiting outside for them. Could hardly contain myself.

Rainbow Connection. One of my earliest memories is my sister learning to play that song on the piano. Absolutely warmed my heart and made me feel six years old again. Almost lost it.

The Muppet show opening also had a similar effect and I couldn't help but sing along. I looked around the theater and saw at least three other people doing the exact same thing.

This post is one step closer to me never having sex again...

I was doing okay holding back the tears through most of the more emotional bits early in the movie. But, when the curtain raised and there was Kermit sitting on his log, strumming his banjo, I just couldn't hold back the tears anymore. That song is one of those that always strikes a chord, when framed with the rest of the movie, it is definitely a tear jerker.

Pictures in my head...seeing them all and wondering what went wrong broke my heart...
And, from Kermit's speech until the credits started. I was so sad and confused how they failed and then there everyone was, waiting for them...

Pictures in my Head made me misty, as did the Rainbow connection as the banjo was playing......but then my 5 year old daughter started singing along with Kermit and Daddy lost it.

Your not the only one Jack, a 36 year old me sat with my 18 month old daughter and I was the one who got the hug from Mrs Flash at the end : )

Why quote other people when I like the sound of my own voice?

reply

But they didn't fail. The dollar amount didn't matter. They had each other and that's what was truly important.

All the mentioned moments gave me teary eyes and choke ups, but am i the only one that got struck emotionally when Walter wanders into Kermit's office? The second they show the wall of host photos with Jim Henson in the middle, I felt the wave of sadness and nostalgia come over me. Then the little suit, and his banjos.

For me, The Muppets defined my childhood. The Muppet Show, the original three movies (Movie, Manhatten, Caper) They were the family I wish I had, even though I knew they weren't real. When I was little, I'd hear the first three notes and the drum role of the opening of the Muppet Show (whose recreation in the film definitely got me!) and from wherever I was in the house, I'd race to the living room, leap into the air and land indian style in front of the television, rocking back and forth.

This one hit a lot of the same heartstrings that Toy Story 3 did for me. Life has kinda come full circle the last few years, and now that I'm a full blown adult I look back on all that stuff with such pride in what we had growing up. I really hope they're back for good and they get the respect they deserve from today's youth. Kids today could learn alot from The Muppets.

Henson would be proud.

reply

Yes, the picture of Kermit with Jim Henson in his office was the first--and biggest--of MANY waterworks moments for me.

reply

The whole film was very touching. But the photo with Jim Henson in Kermit's office was the biggest one for me.

reply

Boston, I'm so glad someone finally mentioned the picture of Jim Henson! To see that picture of him with Kermit made tears well in my eyes immediately. In fact, that's my one minor complaint about the movie - I wish we'd seen one final nod to Henson at the end of the movie; something simple like "For Jim" shown on screen before the end credits started rolling. But I digress....

Growing up, I only really saw the original three Muppet movies but, by extension, "Follow That Bird" and episodes of Sesame Street. I've actually never seen any episodes of "The Muppet Show" but that certainly hasn't depreciated my love and value for the Muppets.

Oh, if only we could return to such good-natured innocence in our children's entertainment...

PS - Tears were streaming down my face as soon as "Rainbow Connection" started. There was no holding 'em back.

reply

Man, I'm getting misty eyed just reading this thread right now.

RUMMMBLEROAR!

Rainbow Connection. Didn't see it coming.

There were many beautiful and emotional scenes in this movie. The end for me was when I cried. Kermit opening those doors and all of their fans waiting for them. It was amazing.
