What was that big eye in the cave?
It certainly never seemed to be explained to me. It was that giant eye that opened up when they walked in front of it. (Reminded me of Sauron fron LotR.)

shareIt reminded me of Sauron too, I guess that was one of the many hidden references to other moviesSource:Rango Reviewhttp://moviereviews.noskram.com/2011/08/rango-review
shareYeah it's look like Sauron's eye but its appearance mimics that of Godzilla's eye in Godzilla (1998). About what it really is, I think it isn't supposed to be explained because I think the joke is that that thing is the biggest thing in the entire movie and yet their only reaction is :'that's the big one' like it's nothing
shareFor some reason people think it was Jake's eye which makes no sense. This scene was a joke in the fact that the audience expects the eye to be something dangerous or important to the plot but in reality no one in the movie really notices it. It is just a subtle joke in the movie. The eye seems similar to a toad or frog eye, but who knows, maybe it's a dinosaur.

It was Smaug on vacation.
"They sucked his brains out!"
I can't believe no one got the joke.
It was a one eyed monster (aka penis) joke. That was a big one.
I looked at this forum just to ask about the giant eye, haha. First thread on top. :P
Here's a screen capture just because. http://i.imgur.com/6yxBZjX.png

The Godzilla thing makes sense, but all I can think is Smaug. (but you know, the movie was out a year later. and yes I know it's a book shh)
