Did anyone else notice this nod? It's at the beginning where Rango slams into the windshield and the smiley face cracks. You can see clearly that the driver is Hunter S. Thompson and he says, "It's another one!" like as in "This is bat country!" Anyway I thought it was really funny and wondered if anyone else caught the reference?

When I saw the previews for Rango, I made some comment about how Rango dresses like Hunter S. Thompson and how both roles are Johnny Depp and said "Is this going to be the animated Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?" So seeing that reference made me laugh doubly hard.

that scene didn't make me LOL, it made me groan, because the movie starts off with Rango wearing the HST red aloha shirt.
I see that and I think, oh, that's cute, they are doing a little reference to F&L because Johnny Depp is friends with HST and he played him in the movie. Then they have the HST cameo five minutes later, and I'm thinking, "yeah! I got it the first time. it was cute. now it's just annoying!".
if you didn't read the book or see the movie then you aren't going to get it anyway.
Well no duh. Most references are caught by people who know what it is. By why did it bother you that they referenced it twice? One is the shirt and actor, and the other last a couple of seconds.
