Like Glass Onion, some times, I just don't understand the hype....

Yes, this was a lovely filmed and assembled movie, but I'm somewhat confused by the critical acclaim. It is the same with Glass Onion.

At times I wonder if I am missing something or if these are just examples of movies where they have to tickle a particular fancy.

And one of my favorite actors is Brendan Gleeson. Also, I greatly enjoyed Colin Farrell's acting - in a way it was a performance he's not known to do.

Did you get a look at Brendan Gleeson's ear? That thing looks like it was a science fiction special effect. He should have cut off his ears instead of his fingers.

I confess though, I wonder why this movie is getting so much attention.

reply

Ha, they're massive aren't they. Looks like a tubby elf.

reply

Ugly dude.

This was much better than Glass Onion. I found Glass Onion to be a steaming pile of trash with no reason to exist; rife with awful performances, particularly from wildly overrated Janelle Monae. "Banshees" had some wonderful acting and cinematography at least - but it really has no reason to exist either. In the end you're like..."ok then".

The main characters of this film utterly and passively submit to meaningless boredom, repetitiveness, and despair, ending up like walking dead people stranded on an isolated island - their lives reduced to just walking, breathing, and waiting for the time to pass until they die.

The film attempts to submerge the viewer into passively accepting this boring, meaningless, and nihilist situation, but it's so badly executed, with its generic, uninspired cinematography and amateur dialogue, that you end up thinking the director would have been more creative if he had chopped off his own fingers, throwing them at the screen, than making this film.

I failed to see much in it.
Then again Birdman won an Oscar.

You are missing something--an empathetic mind, a sense of humor, a failure of imagaination, above-average IQ.

reply

LOL! So true.

reply

Ah, nothing better than insulting horseshit from a keyboard commando. Move on jr.

reply

Well I am definitely missing a sense of humour as never laughed. I find it very sad as in why am I botherin to watch this horse shite so this must make me very empathetic. I have a very imaginative mind and therefore wish they had burned the movie along with Colms house. As for my IQ off to see if I can pass a Mensa test.

Ouch

reply

Good thing this movie was made with none of those or require it for viewing.

It's true that Glass Onion is a bad movie, but it had to have good reviews because it spreads "the message" - evil guy is the white guy, good guys are all the minorities, especially the strong black woman.

Regarding this movie, The Banshees of Inisherin, it is indeed a good movie.
The acting is quite good throughout. Soundtrack and visually it's very well made.
The story starts as a casual, silly fun and starts talking darker turns, serving as a metaphor for how some wars usually start, when both sides just don't budge and things escalate quickly instead of being dealt with, using common sense.

It can also be used as an interesting thinking session for nihilism, depression, our place in this society...

I thought it was good but am not “plugged in” so didn’t see any hype. Never watched Glass Onion because I thought Knives Out was crap. Didn’t even finish it. The performances were embarrassingly bad.

reply

It was kind of prescient in these days where everyone wants to be famous and remembered forever instead of living in the moment for yourself and your people.

reply

I agree. I liked "Glass Onion" a little better, but both are definitely way overhyped.
