Don't understand the hate

I love the original, but I also really dig the remake.

The reason I don't understand why people hate it is because it's the same damn movie. Other than a few changes, it's pretty the original but with modern special effects. So if you love the original, there's no real reason to hate this one.

The main problem I have with this remake is that it lacks heart and is too self-aware. It's lifeless. In the original, the main kids had a rapport, real chemistry as a group of friends. This remake basically is just about 5 almost random "kids" that we're supposed to believe know each other, but they seemed like complete strangers to me throughout. Also, I found the first 2 victims to be WAY MORE interesting than the surviving kids we were stuck with the rest of the way. The first 2 characters drew me in, especially with their conversation in the diner, then it was all downhill from there focusing on "Nancy" and her dull "boyfriend".

I'm a fan of the original (one of the best horror films ever made, IMO), but I also really loved the remake as well. Not as good as the original sure, but still a very well made remake that keeps the spirit of the original intact while also adding its own unique touches in the bargain. Haley was evil perfection as the new Freddy, and I really dug what he brought to the role. Despite the hate it gets, I for one really like it and think its one of the better films in the series.
