Thandie Newton was awful.

I have never seen a movie where I was so aware of one of the actors actually acting. Everytime she spoke it brought me out of the whole movie. It has to be one of the worst pieces of acting in a long time. Why Oliver Stone didn't recast is beyond me. Perhaps due to the rushed shooting schedule. Everyone else did a fine job especially Brolin and Cromwell. Did anyone else cringe at Newton's performance? I'm glad her screen time, and even better her dialogue, were very limited.

Agreed - she sometimes sounded like Gladys Kravitz from Bewitched. And those little pinched-nose looks she was giving - what was all that about?! Surely the woman had more charisma & gravitas than that! :-?

I completely agree, she would have been better off sticking with her own voice rather than doing a poor imitation of Rice's voice. Furthermore, I doubt Rice was nearly that passive as a part of the administration, which is more a sign of Stone's bias than Newton's acting.

I've just seen this movie and whilst Josh Brolin was brilliant in the role of W, Thandie Newton was so spectacularly bad that I can't believe they allowed her on film. Also the guy who played Colin Powell was terrible, he made it look like an impressionist's sketch. As an impression it was good but as an acting performance it was utterly ridiculous.

You'll get no argument from me. She was awful. Simply awful.

I cringed - it was dreadful. Actually, Stone lately has problems with casting to his movies.

I think she did well, she did pretty much like Condoleeza, quite but silently strong, but the best character portrayal for me was Richard Dreyfuss, took me a while to recognise him, but he had Dick Cheney spot on, right down to the grinding of his teethSource:W Movie Reviewhttp://moviereviews.noskram.com/2009/09/movie-reviews-for-w

I could not agree more!!!! I thought the same thing everytime she spoke. Now, looks-wise... awesome casting. But when she spoke.......... uh uh.
