Watched the entire first season...

and it was surprisingly good. Ok, it's not exactly perfect since many others will still prefer the anime/manga, but it goes to show that we finally get a US american adaptation that respects the source material. The actors were spot on with their roles especially Luffy, Zoro, and Nami, most of the effects, notably the practical effects were superb, and the music fits the atmosphere (not to mention it made a few nods to the music from the anime which I won't spoil to those who haven't seen it yet).

Netflix released its weekly Top 10 charts, which had One Piece topping the English-language rankings. While it fell short of Wednesday or Queen Charlotte levels, the adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga is in the Top 10 in 93 countries and No. 1 in 46 of them, with 18.5 million views from August 28 to September 3.

The fight choreography is actually quite amateurish and needs improvements.

Good point on that. Maybe season 2 will improve on that and some of the CGI. Only time will tell.

reply

I hope that too, I think that is actually a quite important part, without the cool fighting scenes the matrix was really just a weird sci-fi movie.

Still, the live action One Piece series is good. To be perfectly honest, I've only watched 175 episodes and I even finished reading the first volume of the manga.

The choreography is pretty faithful to the anime.

that I pretty much agree and while some of the CGI isn't quite as good, at least Luffy's fight moves were accurate.

It is not about that. It is about their movements, whether they are fast and slick, also fit their character.

For example one complaint of black widow is that Antonia's stunt double was a man, the movements, the walk, are all of a man, the strength shown and fighting style were not of a woman.

So it is not about what they do, it is how they do it.

In my opinion Ax Hand Morgan's movements should actually resemble that Antonia's stunt double.

I think it fits the profile …
