What makes this version better than the 1984 version?
Answer please
shareThe addition of....... Aquaman!
shareIt's neither better nor worse than the '84 film. In fact, the only thing that makes it even a teensy bit better is very good CGI and a better film budget....that's it. It both makes up for the drawbacks of the '84 film, but also lacks things that made the '84 film (and Dune in general) memorable.
shareIt's much easier to follow than the '84 version. I know because I recently watched the 3 hour version of the '84 movie for the first time, and I would have been totally lost if I hadn't read the book first.
shareMuch easier to follow, I don't go looking around for my phone or iPad in this one, and I don't fall asleep in this one. The 1984 is impossible for me to watch without being completely distracted.
shareNot sure it is. Very different approach but not necessarily a better film (yet).
shareMy bias: I didn't like the book.
I thought this movie was the best version of Dune yet. It is beautiful to behold. It made me wish that I had seen it in the theater. I very much enjoyed the attention to the various cultures and especially the military orthodox rituals. Immersive movie. I am still not a big fan of the story. It is the ideas within that hold any value IMO.
Oh yeah, your question. This one has better acting, directing, effects, and continuity. Lynch's version does a few things better though. Baron Harkonen for instance.
Yeah I think it's easier to follow but so far I prefer the 1984 version.
shareThe special effects. Nothing else.
