Paul’s Fight with Jamis

Sure seemed anti-climatic but then again in the other films it never was “all of that” but still for drama purposes they could’ve upped the ante a little bit. It says a lot about the Fremen & their mentality that Stilgar actually thought that Paul was toying with Jamis. Guess it’s just not in their mindset that one wouldn’t actually “want” to kill an opponent. Not Paul’s fault that he didn’t know their rule/law regarding combat. When Jessica let Stilgar know that Paul had never killed a man before it was hard to gauge exactly what he thought about learning this.

One would think that overall they’d be surprised that this little “nothing/weakling” would or could best Jamis but they all just seemed to be “Eh, whatever” seeing how it turned out the way it did. Chani for her part was the most confusing, because it actually seemed like she was miffed/upset that Paul was the victor, but maybe I’m wrong about that.

But wasn’t that Jamis in Paul’s vision of the Fremen that was actually his friend, that was nice to him? I’m really confused about that unless it was somebody else.

"because it actually seemed like she was miffed/upset that Paul was the victor" - heh??

WHAT makes you think she would have to cheer for Paul's victory??

reply

I’m not saying that at all but by the same token why would she have been upset over it? Seems you’re not thinking clearly.

If it “Would’ve been a honor” for him to die holding her blade, then how much more of an honor it would’ve been when he was the victor? “Heh?”

reply

"but by the same token why would she have been upset over it" really?

Are you that dense? A member of her tribe, possibly a friend, was killed and you ask why should she be upset??? WTF??

"If it “Would’ve been a honor” for him to die holding her blade, then how much more of an honor it would’ve been when he was the victor?"

Yes, it would had been a honor for him to die holding her blade, blade that she would had recovered after his death. She just acknowledges his position as the duke of Atreides and offers him at least a honorable death, out of respect. That's all. Doesn't mean that she root for him or anything..

reply

Who’s the one that’s dense? Again that’s not what I said in any shape of form. Did I say she was rooting for him? You’re good at drawing your own conclusions I see. OH & again she could’ve recovered the blade from him regardless. I’m well aware genius that she did that out of respect, but again what I stated does make more sense.

You are the one that's dense when you ask "why would she have been upset over it?" and say "Chani for her part was the most confusing, because it actually seemed like she was miffed/upset that Paul was the victor" like she was supposed to be happy about it or something, a stranger boy that she literally met one minute ago and was preparing to get his water.

OF COURSE SHE WAS UPSET THAT ONE OF HER PEOPLE DIED!!! (KOWALSKY, SORRY :D )

Damn morons.

reply

Like Kowalsky, you do a damn good job yourself so I wouldn’t talk if I were you.

reply

My man, you make no sense.

Let's start easy, so your lonely neuron can understand: WHY do/did you think that she should not had been upset over Paul's victory???

reply

The oddest thing was the change of her line “I would not have permitted you to harm my tribe “ to “I would not have permitted you to harm my friends”

reply

don't cha know? "tribe" is racist. just ask the cleveland indians why they had to be renamed.

reply

Damn, I had forgotten

It's funny because in the book, Chani didn't say anything to Paul about it being an honor for him to die using her crysknife. She even gave Paul advice for the fight with Jamis. And after Paul killed Jamis, Chani looked at Paul with "excitement" and "admiration".

reply

They were just visions or premonitions that he was seeing that would come to pass and he didn't want that to happen, to get stabbed that is, so he went against the fates the Bene Gesserit had set for him or something. Bene Gesserit had plans for him but since he was no vagina soyboy but an actual chad with powers (kwisatz haderach), he's going his own way by banging the most unwashed woman he could find aka Chani.

This made my day.
