I don't think that's precise.
In the original novel, the Fremen seem inspired by the Tuaregs and the One Thousand and One Nights stories. I could easily see them played by Arabic people. And the main character had a Fremen girlfriend.
The problem here is... they just casted the Fremen as... blacks?!? It's the same pattern again and again and again. Vikings? Californian demographics! black vikings!! Star Wars? Californian demographics! The Witcher? Californian demographics! black Germans! Arrakis? The Fremen? Californian demographics! black Fremen!
Of course, the bad guys, the psychos, the molesters and the clowns stay white.
And the main character, Paul, a military leader, some kind of charismatic Che Guevara... is played by a guy that looks like a cuck. It seems that there's only three options for established white main characters: fem-washing, black-washing, or white soyboy-washing. They went for the third one here, the soylo way.
It seems another (more) movie to dismiss :-(
PS Sofia Boutella, that would have been a great cast for Chani. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1154749/ Zendaya?? WTF??
