Joaquin Phoenix reveals that Christopher Nolan approached him to play The Joker in ‘THE DARK KNIGHT’

“I wasn’t ready then.”

say he did accept the Joker in TDK, then obviously Ledger wouldve done something else around that time instead (therefore would he have still done the Terry Gilliam movie immediately after if his timeline was altered in that way? where he caught flu/cold and died accidently as a result of mixing medications?) Phoenix would most likely delivered a similar acclaimed performance to Ledger (as same script/directed by Nolan, and probably similar joker makeup) with abit of his own elements we saw in Joker 2019.. then possible oscar nom(win?) and maybe returned in a Joker cameo in Dark Knight Rises (possibly instead of Cillian Murphy/Scarecrow? although no Joker in TDKR possibly worked out better and added to the mystique of Joker). Also maybe thered be no Joker 2019 movie (as i think Phoneix was the main driving factor to getting it made with Phillips, Warners wernt keen on doing it)

He was actually the actor I thought of after seeing him play Johnny Cash.

I remember him being reported as saying that back around the time the first Joker came out.

This isn’t new news. I remember vividly back then. Also when the news came that Heath was casted as the Joker, there was definitely a lot of backlash.

Heath was an infinitely better choice as the Joker for The Dark Knight. Joaquin was good in an arthouse version of the character, at least in the first movie.
