Looks like people will be split on this one

I don't get casting Lady Gaga. Are they planning on turning this into a musical?

reply

DIdn't you watch the trailer?

reply

It's been reported for a long time now that it's a musical...

reply

not in my newsfeed. Well, they must be going after an entirely different audience than they went after in the first film.

reply

Yep, only after checking out the news about the first reviews I learned it's a musical. What the hell...

reply

Good. I'm not a fan of Lady Gaga

reply

Even the bad reviews say she's great in this.

reply

The first film has a 59 on Metacritic, and anyone who puts their faith in reviewers these days has serious brainrot. That said, the complaints could be well founded - time will tell.

reply

That's Venice, lots of art film reviewers. US critics will rate it higher sometime before October.
Wed night 54 from 23 reviews: https://www.metacritic.com/movie/joker-folie-a-deux/critic-reviews/

reply

The first also premiered at Venice to mostly positive reviews. In fact, more of the mixed/negative reviews came from US critics closer to release.

reply

The first film was a disappointment, largely because there was very little actual Joker action. Maybe it was budgetary concerns but very little of the movie had the Joker actually being the Joker.

It sounds like this film will subject us to even more disappointment.

reply

Most would disagree with you about the first.

reply

Everyone has an opinion. Mine is that the first film was dull and not really a "Joker" movie.

reply

I found the first movie to be extremely depressing and this one looks to be more of the same, only with ridiculous singing and dancing. Maybe Gag Gag will wear a meat dress

reply

I agree about it being depressing. When I first heard that a Joker movie was being made, I expected more a fun tone. Also more of the the Joker being Joker.

The film is not really a Joker movie. It's an Arthur Fleck movie.

reply

I like the review that said it was bad on purpose.

reply

David Elrich is a smug hack. I never take anything he says seriously.
