On no planet does a guy come out of jail after 18 yrs after not being a pro at all and his FIRST fight is for the world title. So absolutely stupid. Who writes these films? At least have him fight a couple bums first for the sake of plausibility. So stupid. Not to mention the guy that plays Felix is Jose Benavidez who fights 5 divisions below the weight where these fights are supposed to be taking place. And Damian is in there sparring Bud Crawford who fights at 147 lbs. So silly. These guys are supposed to be heavyweights. They fight in the 200s. Over 225 usually.

And Rocky is 190-ish pounds at the end of "Rocky III" and still a heavyweight.

190ish is a far cry from Jose Benavidez and Terence Crawford who fight at 154 and 147 lbs. Casting Benavidez in such a prominent role is just ridiculous. He’s so thin.

It’s a slap in the face to the people that actually do watch boxing. It’s 2023, being lazy with details shouldnt happen.

It's a Rocky movie. They aren't meant to give a realistic depiction of boxing. You are either into the story around the fights, or you aren't, but the fights in all...9 is it?... Rocky films have been unrealistic to a point of being comedic. Rocky, and everyone he fought, would have died in the ring based on the way the fights are depicted in the films.

I guess that you never watched much boxing prior to the 1980s. It was brutal. The fights were often worse than what happened in the Rocky movies.

I did, and they weren't even close. They were certainly brutal, but nothing like the absurdity one sees in Rocky films.

I guess that you are referring to punches that sound like shots that were fired out of a cannon. Or your talking about how stupid the Rocky III fight was against Mr. T. "Hit me harder!"."Come on champ, you ain't so bad!". Ugh, Rocky III was terrible. In my opinion (aside from some cool parts) it was way worse than Rocky V.

The fights got progressively more comical, but even in the first two the boxers stand with their guard down and take a series of full-force blows to the head, even one of which would knock a man out, after which they turn the tables and land lethal combos to the other guy. I've been a huge boxing fan since childhood, and have never seen a fight remotely similar to what one sees in a Rocky film.

As for III vs. V, it's a toss-up. Mr. T is entertaining, and there's still some vestige left of what made the original Rocky film great. Though Rocky V has some moments, and Tommy Morrison was a surprisingly good actor, the film feels somehow hollow.

Okay, I actually agree with you about both boxers with their guard being down. Whenever that happens in a real fight the guy with his guard down always gets knocked out.

I also agree with you that there are parts of Rocky III that are good. It's just that it was such a step down from the first two.

Rocky V is hollow. There is definitely something missing to it but we do get to see the neighborhood again, Micky again, and as you said Tommy Morrison was really good in it. It's such a shame what happened to him. The guy was an absolute beast in the ring.

I used to love watching boxing. I stopped watching it around 2012. There was a tripleheader night of boxing on HBO and the fights were scored so poorly that I just gave up on the sport. I watched three guys beat the piss out of their opponents and then all three of those guys lost because the other three guys were fighting in their promoter's casino. Even Jim Lampley called it "A VERY questionable night of boxing." It sucks as I always used to look forward to a new fight.

That happens from time to time, and is always puzzling and disappointing. I don't want to think the sport is fixed, and I chalk it up to what we see from multiple cameras isn't always what a judge sees in real time from one point of view ringside. The first Fury-Wilder fight was like that. I watched it at a movie theater with a fairly large audience. Most viewers seemed to be pulling for Wilder, but after the draw was announced the seemingly unanimous opinion of the room, and also my own opinion, was that Fury was the clear winner of the fight.

I definitely think boxing has moved well past its best years. My father was a big fan of the sport. He saw Primo Carnera fight, and listened to or watched some of the greats, in what seems like the best years for the sport. I caught the tail end of it, and can remember the tail end of Ali's career. Even in the '80s and '90s the sport felt relevant, but now it's barely on the radar of most people.

Anyway, I'm rambling, but yeah-- boxing in 2023 barely matters, though I will still watch when I have the chance. I hope the Fury-Usyk fight really happens.

It was by far the weakest part of the film. Just show him knocking people out and working his way up the ranks and easily could have resolved this issue.

I also noticed that Chavez and Damian looked nowhere near the same weight class. I was like, how is that dude a heavyweight?

What gets me is the first Creed film is praised for how real and gritty it was. Despite being a soft remake of the original Rocky. But when Creed came out all you heard was "oh it's so real and grounded" "finally a Rocky movie that feels like it takes place in the real world" "unlike the fantasy elements of the rocky sequels this feels like real life"

Then Creed II and Creed III drop and they delve into the ridiculous territory and the same people start spouting off: "well all the Rocky movies stretched believability" "well what do you expect from a Rocky movie they're all like this" - you can't have it every which people.
