Excellent film! Just one nitpick.

I have a soft spot for the time loop genre, so a movie or TV show within it is going to get a long leash from me. This one didn’t need it, because it’s really quite good. Not quite as good as my two favorites in the genre, “Groundhog Day” and “Edge of Tomorrow” (which also happen to be the two that are namechecked in the movie), but surprisingly not that far behind. I liked it significantly more than “Palm Springs”, which was enjoyable for sure but just not as affecting as this film.

At a certain point in the opening minutes I thought maybe the beginning of the film was all an elaborate tracking shot, which would be amazing. I rewound it and determined there were actually plenty of cuts in the first couple minutes, but then there was an almost two minute shot that was pretty complicated, not too shabby even if it wasn’t quite the achievement I thought it might be.

Now, what's that nitpick I mentioned?

On the algebra teacher’s whiteboard, there is one simplified equation x=40/16=5/2. Correct. But then the next one says x=-36/16=-0. Say what??

just incorrect props guy i reckon.

what other time loop films have you seen?

reply

Strange that the props guy would get the first one right and the second so wildly wrong.

I have seen GROUNDHOG DAY, PALM SPRINGS, EDGE OF TOMORROW, THE ENDLESS, and the TV show RUSSIAN DOLL. Plus MAP OF TINY PERFECT THINGS of course. (There are some others Wikipedia defines as time loop pictures that I would not include.) Still need to see HAPPY DEATH DAY.

Thanks!

Triangle was great, I was blown away.

Never heard of Palm Springs. I'm gonna check it out.

Happy Death Day is another one that is kind of a time loop. A bit cheesy but still entertaining

reply

I’ve heard about that. I don’t usually go for slasher pics but I might have to check that one out.

Yep I love time loop/travel movies and shows. This one was good. I really loved all the tricks the main characters pulled off, including the bottle flip and the walk and talk near the end of the movie.

Also, even though you pretty much know where this movie is going to go, the plot point with Margaret's mom gave the conclusion an unexpected bit of gravitas which really elevated it above just a silly rom com.

Agreed!
