Its horrible…spoilers
5/10 No resolution. He didn’t get his pig back and he didn’t seem to care. I was eagerly awaiting this but was so disappointed. If anyone can tell me what the point of this was I would like to know…

shareGreat review
shareI agree
shareHe definitely cared! He broke down crying when he found out the pig died! But yeah I agree. I wish that the film didn't leave me feeling empty.
shareaside from your disappointment, was this a character-driven movie and not so much plot-driven (finding his pig)?
shareUnfortunately I did not find his character particularly interesting. Maybe you get it and can explain his character arc? I love character study films but to me this was not that.
shareThe movie is about the avoidance of loss.
Read this article for the explanation of character development and the purpose of the ending.

Thanks!
shareVery good article, agreed on all points
sharehe didn't seem to care?
he clearly did.
he had a clear emotional breakdown when he was told.
why did you think he was on his knees & showing all that emotion after he was told?
& the end of the movie was about how his attachment to the pig was really avoiding his own grief over his wife.
i loved it. 4.5/5, but i might change that to a 5 tomorrow after i've slept on it.
best oscar nom for cage or i start a riot.
I can agree with this line, his attachment to the pig was really avoiding his own grief over his wife.
It was a long winded not very interesting story telling to get us to that point.
i deeply deeply disagree, in that i think it's the best new film i've see this year, perhaps. but no harm in that. we're allowed to be different. de gustibus non disputandum est as the kids like to say.
shareI agree, it’s definitely one of the best films of the year.
It’s weird and original whilst also having excellent writing and acting with themes that resonated with me.
