The first two movies didn't flop. They didn't make a billion, but they didn't flop either. They definitely both made a profit. Granted not on the same level as the avenger movies. But definitely not flops. Plus Paul Rudd is pretty likeable.

Everything I read back in 2018 said the second movie was an overall flop. The first movie was a hit though. But they said they were going to make a third movie anyway no matter what happened with the second movie.

It's budget was estimated to be between $130 to $200 million. They say that you need to double that in order to come out even. So between $260-$400 million would be considered even. It's total gross was $622.6 million. Most definitely not a flop. If $400 million is even, $222.6 million profit is not a flop. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

You need more than double, b/c of P&A. More like 2.5x, at least, b/c it made 2/3 of its gate in the foreign market where the splits are worse. It wasn't a flop, but it wasn't 222.6mil in the black if the high end of the production budget is used.

Ant-Man 3 suffers biggest second week drop in MCU history

Ant-Man 3 fell 69.7 percent in North America, the worst decline ever for a title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after eclipsing Black Widow‘s 67.8 percent drop (the latter pic had the disadvantage of opening during the pandemic, and was made available simultaneously in the home).

The Ant-Man threequel also suffered the worst second-weekend drop of any superhero film opening to $100 million or more. DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice previously sat in the hot seat at 69.1 percent. Among MCU movies in this category, last year’s Thor: Love and Thunder saw the biggest decline, or 67.7 percent, after debuting at $144.2 million. And among all films starting off with $100 million or more, the final Harry Potter installment, released in 2011, tops the list of biggest second-weekend drops with a decline of 72 percent, according to Comscore.
