The skinny... -especially for all the confused people.

The skinny.....

THIS FILM IS NOT CONNECTED TO 'Abel Ferrara's Bad Lieuteant' IN ANY WAY.
-Let the alarm bells ring as you should avoid responding to any oblivious imbecile who has failed to figure this well publicized fact.

It is an intentionally, insane, wild and over the top performance by Nicolas Cage.

There are no hidden meanings, messages, symbolism, metaphors or references.
It is there for you to interpret for yourself as you see it.

I saw this film on my own in a full house at a festival premiere, sitting in the front row beside a girl who was also on her own. While frequently laughing out loud along with at least half of the cinema, sometimes more or less, I was often in fits of hysterics..

-The now infamous 'Iguana trip' being the main catalyst and left me still giddy a half a day later.

The girl in question, along with much of the audience didn't laugh too often and I may have appeared to be a little odd to her/them in a 'Why is he still laughing?', 'What's so funny?' and maybe 'Why am I not laughing as much?', or in the case of some of the audience and the readers of this, -'Why do I not find this funny at all and why is he completely red and leaking from almost every orifice???'.

The answer is obvious and simple.
-You, just, don't, get, it!!

So accept it, move on, the moment is gone.

It's for the same reason that I personally just don't get films like 'Paul Blart:Mall Cop', 'Couples Retreat' or 'Wedding, Love, He's Something-Something etc. trash romance with Mathew McConningyoufoolsintheworstpossiblewayeveryday'
-None of which I've had to suffer by the way.

If you've never heard of, or can't appreciate Werner Herzog and/or Nic. Cage that might count for something in your defense but other than that it's a question of taste. Some have it and many of you do not apparently..

Another way to explain it is this..
In my mind, your slight mental deficiency has robbed you of a great moment where Herzog, a true 'Soldier' of cinema, has danced the fine line between Independant art and mainstream commercial success and directed the great Nic. Cage in a completely original, hilariously wild and darkly twisted film about a 'BAD LIEUTENANT' in 'NEW ORLEANS'.

(The clue was in the title..??)

Man, no offence, but you're way off.

A.ferrara's BL is Nasty, Evil and Depraved and that film is an art house drama about redemption.

BL:POCNO is a BLACK COMEDY and a twited morality tale.

I started this post after reading all the similar confusion and other gibberish in several other posts. It is not related in any way other than in meaningless similarities like 'Bad' and 'Lieutenant' are in the title as one smart-ass but funny poster pointed out early on.

Everyone has their own opinion and they are welcome to keep it but most never do...

Cheers.

No, not at all. You honestly couldn't be more wrong.

The film is a satire, mocking how violent and corrupt the men in charge really are. Its as simple as that.

Yeah, well said.. and how insane the whole clearcut good vs bad idea is sometimes.

Ahh yes THE war-cry people use in reference to other people who do not think exactly like them and in turn are of course, wrong. No, it's not possible that people have a different opinion than you, they are just wrong because they "don't get it" bravo to you who is so clever and intellectually superior. Actually you are right, you do get it. Herzog used this film as test, much like the integrity test willy wonka used to find a protégé. Herzog was trying to find someone to take his place in the area of obscure, art-house filmmaking (he is getting on in years) and you are it! congrats! you are the ONE person who "got it". Herzog truly made this film for YOU. I'm sure werner will be contacting you soon if he hasn't already. After you're a big success I bet that girl sitting next to you in the front row will wish she "got it" and was laughing along with you and leaking from her orifices. Then maybe she could have got to know you and become Mrs. Filmsnob. I can't wait to see your first Movie. unfortunately, I probably wont' "get it".

- It's not about a difference of opinion...
- It's about people saying it was a remake of BL, it's just another bad cops and robbers/crime/genre film and that the bizarre scenes were terrible and badly acted, when in my mind it was a unique tongue in cheek and quirky style.

Well there's no point in me wasting time trying to explain this further if Herzog is on his way...

... because.... I've got a Golden Tiiicket!

:P...

I like the movie and think it is a comedy on many levels, but:

The OP's assertion that only people like himself who bray out loud in theaters are the people who "get it" brings up my intense hatred of people who go to theaters and have to LAUGH OUT LOUD to let everyone know "I GET IT...see I laugh at the right places, aren't I smart???"

Maybe some people can be amused without braying like hyenas?

I hate people like the OP in movie theaters, and givin the tone of his post, oh yes, he is that guy in the theater.

Shut up.

How can you possibly think there is no symbolism, meaning, or message to this film if you are such a big fan of Herzog?

I was also laughing at parts, and often attend movies alone so I can ponder them in my own way without people like the girl you describe who just aren't life-experienced enough to understand what's happening.

But in no way would I agree this is a film made to be utterly absurd. A reflection on absurdity perhaps, but also on tragedy, mystery, luck, visions, and above all, morality. What is morality, I think, is a question in this film. Where does it come from and who can really "get" it, and is it worth having.

If it's not connected, then don't use the title... That's just piggybacking, or attempting to confuse the unaware.
