Is portraying a clearly developmentally challenged person for laughs not highly offensive now?

Sure, years ago you could get away with it but in today's culture with Twitter acting as judge, jury and executioner for stuff like this, where is the outrage?

remember tropic thunder? a little bit of retardation gets you an oscar, like rain man, but you never go full retard. i think this one might have gone full retard

reply

Damn it! You beat me to it.

reply

sorry :(

reply

Yeah, felt like late 90s humor some parts...

reply

CHALLENGED PEOPLE CAN BE FUNNY TOO...A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE FOR TEN YEARS WAS MENTALLY CHALLENGED.DUDE WAS A CRACK UP...IT DEPENDS ON WETHER THE HUMOR IS AT THEIR EXPENSE OR NOT....THE RINGER WITH JOHNNY KNOXVILLE IS A GOOS EXAMPLE...HE PLAYS "RETARDED" BUT THE ACTUAL CHALLEGED ACTORS WERE THE BETTER PEOPLE.

reply

So your friend wasn't mentally challenged anymore after 10 years?

For those asking, no I'm not being serious.

reply

OH...HE IS STILL CHALLENGED...LMAO...HONESTLY...HE TURNED INTO A SEX FREAK...THATS ALL HE TALKED ABOUT.GOT WEIRD.

I’m glad there’s not outrage. There’s outrage about EVERYTHING in the world today...I enjoy it when something actually slips past the “outrage brigade” of useless twat stains who’s only life goal is to bitch about things they are offended by on social media. People like that suck.

reply

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy too. I think all these losers on Twitter that seem to get offended at the slightest thing are absolutely pathetic. It's just for instance you have someone that might call a trans person by their birth name for clarification or whatever and suddenly that person needs to be "cancelled" (again, I fucking hate this concept) by the outrage mob. Here, you have Sandler playing a developmentally challenged person for laughs and...crickets.

reply

Yes Im Outraged but its Adam Sandler he said he would make a Movie like this he if he didnt get the best actor nom at last years academy voting

reply

FACT: Hubie is not developmentally challenged. Prove me wrong.

reply

Yes he is.Prove me wrong.

reply

It's Adam Sandler, not many people give a damn about what he does nowadays

reply

Outrage these days is pretty selective, it seems to me. However, because Sandler has already worn this out, it's more that people are bored than offended. Especially because it's no longer funny and it also doesn't do its intended job of making the character appear sympathetic.
