Anyone else feel this film was... Lacking?

Now, don't get me wrong, there were many things I enjoyed about this movie, and I think all 3 of the main actors did very well. The thing I was not FEELING was the chemistry between Marlena and Jacob. I know I am likely to get ripped apart by all the die-hards on this board, but for a movie that was hyped as a story of "star-crossed romance", I did not feel that kind of love between them. Did anyone else feel the same way?

You're not going mad... There wasn't much chemistry. I enjoyed the film for other reasons.

Born when she kissed me, died when she left me, lived whilst she loved me

Personally, I thought it was absolutely predicable. Everthing about it was so basic, I felt I've seen the same thing a hundred times before. Even what happend to August in the end was so cliched. There were no suprises, nothing. And I also really didn't feel for the characters, they seemed somehow flat to me.
I think it was an okay movie for a sunday evening you can watch with your girlfriend on TV, but for me, there was really nothing special about it.

The two leads didn't have a LOT of chemistry...but I really felt a lacking on Reese Witherspoon's part. She just didn't seem to have her whole heart in this movie.

Dammit Carol Sue, where is the vodka?!

I sort of agree! But it didn't bother me like it does in some other movies. For me their Chemistry was limited, but it's not like there wasn't any at all.

Just wached this and thought there was a huge lack of chemistry between leads. Checked on here just to see if anyone else felt the same.

I've only seen Witherspoon in contemporary, comic or active roles and wonder if she was miscast here.

I also wondered if the direction was a bit passionless. While a very attractive movie I couldn't help feeling that the emotional scenes were a bit bloodless in the direction, feeling very expected.

Lacking? Yeah! Like a purpose for being. Robert Pattison is a as dreary and unexciting a leading man as can be imagined and the whole thing just begs the question: Why was this thing ever made? There's not a single compelling scene in the whole movie.
