6 Takeaways....

1) I'm shocked Carpenter and Curtis put their names to this garbage. It tarnishes the original ('78) movie....(as do all the sequels).

2) None of the idiots who wrote, produced and directed this trash truly understood what it was about the original that made it special...and elevated it above a typical slasher flick.

3) When it comes to scary movies and creating fear...........gore, higher body counts and overkill are the cheap, low-brow, unimaginative approach. Again, LEARN FROM WHAT MADE THE ORIGINAL SO GREAT! Less.....is......more! Just like how the original Jaws created fear, it's not blood and gore that does it......it's the ANTICIPATION of something scary....and, it's our own imaginations that create the fear.

4) Michael Meyers has become a caricature....no different than Jason, Freddy or Chucky. And, he is shown WAY too much. In the original ('78).....he's just a mysterious figure in the shadows. Now, he has a signature outfit....everyone knows his name and backstory. ANy and all mystique....is long gone.

5) The original was a masterpiece. Each sequel after that is progressively awful, and should never have been made. The story keeps changing...its way too contrived. In the original (back when MM was still a mystery)....it ended PERFECTLY. But of course, they couldn’t leave well enough alone.

6) Casting Anthony Michael Hall was a big mistake. It’s a constant distraction...because you can’t forget you’re watching Anthony Michael Hall on-screen, that dope from those 80’s movies.

You're right, of course, but you're not going to get much agreement on this board.

You're like the second person on these boards I've seen that doesn't seem to realize that Anthony Michael has been actively acting past the 80s. It's not the movie's fault if the viewer's only seen him in like 2 movies.

reply

It’s a fair point....but those dopey 80’s movies are his signature roles, and primarily what he’s known for. It would be like having Molly Ringwald play the part of Tommy’s sister (Lindsay?) Molly has done plenty of projects since her Brat Pack stuff....but those roles are just kinda stamped on her.

Plus, Anthony Michael Hall’s big, hammy face is, in itself, a distraction.

reply

I didn't recognize Anthony Michael Hall.
Paul Rudd would have been a bit more of a distraction.

reply

I agree with you completely. All I see when I see Anthony Michael Hall is The Dead Zone. And I'm an 80's woman! Paul Rudd would have been too comical.

reply

Paul Rudd was already in a Halloween movie. He was in “The Curse of Michael Myers” back in 1995.
