Were the Guardians of the Galaxy out of character?

Watching it, I was put off by how much Starlord seemed intelligent and straight-laced in contrast to Thor's wackiness. It didn't fit the character. It was even weirder that Drax and Mantis never had any funny moments despite them being the goofier members. Only Groot and Rocket seemed to be on point. Anyone else notice this?

That whole scene seemed off to me. It’s not often you see the protagonist in a superhero movie treated as persona non grata by his comrades. Thor came across as conceited and selfish and, yes, Starlord was too straight. Most of the other Guardians just seemed irritated or mad.

reply

Especially when the Guardians were in awe of Thor in Infinity War and Endgame.

I thought there would be more of Guardians of the Galaxy in this movie. But it was almost blink and you’ll missed it cameo. Short scene and then they wondered off and never came back. Despite Thor actually needing them. But it was as if he just forget about their existence.

Would have been awesome if they swooped in at the end to save the day and Thor was all pissed about it. Perfect cherry on the sundae for this movie. I mean the whole movie is about "F Gods". Would have thematically fit.

reply

Yes. They acted like a bunch of douchebags that needed Thor to save the day instead of taking care of business themselves.

A lot of things were wrong, for example Mjölnir was dead, destroyed by Thor's sister, yet it seems more powerful than ever. What was it doing? Sleeping?

Jane did not lift Mjölnir, so how could she have the power of Thor? So now it is not about whether someone is worthy, it is all about whoever Mjölnir prefers.

Didn't Necrosword corrupt the owner, why didn't it work? Because someone pleaded to him, that was it?

Gorr was not a powerful being, his power was from his sword. So how did his daughter become a powerful being? Wouldn't her "body crumbles and mind collapses into madness" when she wields Stormbreaker?

So Stormbreaker can call on Eternity, why? Nobody built it to do that, why can't it be something else?

They now seem to just change whatever they feel like it.

Oh, this movie got everything wrong, no doubt. It didn't even keep its own rules straight. I didn't see too many topics about the GotG being poorly written so I thought I'd make one. It was mind boggling that they were the only serious characters in this movie except for the bad guy.

reply

I wouldn't say the GOTG crew were out of character, they just weren't shown to their best advantage.

Yes, Starlord is an immature douche, but he's had to be sharp and stay in touch with reality to still be alive, so yes. I can actually see him forming a Peter-Pan-and-Wendy relationship with Thor, where Starlord is horrified to realize that he's the Wendy!

As for the rest of them, I can believe that they'd be totally fed up with Thor personally, but they'd keep him around because he can win battles single-handedly and doesn't expect a share of the fee.

reply

Of course, that speaks to a larger issues of Thor being vastly out of character and why Taika thought a five minute GotG cameo should have no jokes whatsoever in a movie that seems really really desperate for comedy.

Speaking of Starlord, didn't Chris Pratt look skinny?

reply

He fluctuates a lot. Sometimes he's chubby, sometimes he's buff and other times he's skinny.
