Transformers 2 was 'crap,' says director Michael Bay

http://www.windsorstar.com/entertainment/story.html?id=4395439

"The real fault with (Transformers 2) is that it ran into a mystical world," he explains. "When I look back at it, that was crap. The writers' strike was coming hard and fast. It was just terrible to do a movie where you've got to have a story in three weeks."

He adds, "I was prepping a movie for months where I only had 14 pages of some idea of what the movie was. It's a BS way to make a movie, do you know what I'm saying?"

This isn't the first time Bay has blamed the writers' strike for the blockbuster's faults. In July 2010, he told USA Today, "I'll take some of the criticism. It was very hard to put (the sequel) together that quickly after the writers' strike."

Actor Shia LaBeouf had similar complaints earlier that year at the Cannes Film Festival. "When I saw the second movie, I wasn't impressed with what we did," he said. "There were some really wild stunts in it, but the heart was gone."

Finally he admits it. I do not think there is any need now to defend this piece of crap.

Good man. Now, if he could only admit that the first Transformers, Bad Boys I&II, Armageddon and Pearl Harbour are crap too...

reply

I think the first transformers movie was not that bad. It was really stupid sometimes, but I can't say that it wasn't entertaining.

Now I absolutely hated the second movie. Bay was right.

You are clearly just not a fan of Michael Bay, but the first Transformers was entertaining, Bad Boys I was also, Armageddon and BB2 yes arguably not great, and Pearl Harbour, well the less said about that the better. But then again you called him a 'good man' for admitting he made a crap film and basically just put any old thing out to the public, the very public that paid good money to watch that film, and also Transformers has a fan base and is cherished, he tarnished the brand name severely, there is nothing good about him admitting it was crap and he shouldn't have made it, it brings the whole industry into question, and his integrity as a person. He should keep his mouth shut and suffer his mistakes silently, for with the dark side of the moon he proved he clearly learnt absolutely nothing and never will.

reply

At least he admits the movie was bad. Still don't think any higher of him though and my expectations for Transformers 3 are still very low.

So is this Utube crap.....
What a waste of server space.

reply

wow I'm surprised he admitted it, the story was definitely rushed but I doubt the new one can do better.

who cares if he did. I still rather enjoy this movie. I have a feeling he is trying to pander down to the internet crowd, since that's the main place where this movie is hated. I wonder why he feels he needs to do that.

Because, apparently, only the people who hated the film use the internet.

Again, Bay isn't "pandering" to anyone. He just thought the film was crap. When has Bay ever listened to anyone? Many people (yes, even people who don't post on line) didn't like it. You did? Great. Enjoy. Accept the fact that MANY people didn't.

Revenge of the Fallen was the highest selling dvd and blu ray of that year.

Not to nitpick, but:

"The real fault with (Transformers 2) is that it ran into a mystical world," he explains. "When I look back at it, that was crap. The writers' strike was coming hard and fast. It was just terrible to do a movie where you've got to have a story in three weeks."

Grammatically speaking... he's saying that "[running] it into a mystical world" is crap. Not the film itself.

He adds, "I was prepping a movie for months where I only had 14 pages of some idea of what the movie was. It's a BS way to make a movie, do you know what I'm saying?"

And here he's saying that the method used to make the film was "BS" not the film itself.

He never directly addresses the film itself so we don't know if he thought the film itself is "crap" or not.

Why is it so hard for you to understand such a simple sentence? And then put up a pseudo-intellectual face by writing 'grammatically speaking'. LOL

If King's speech, not a Harry Potter, ran into the mystical world, then Michael Bay would call it a crap film.

Wow, you blew me away with your detailed critique of my post... /sarcasm

Look, he may or may not hate the film. The fact is, WE DON'T KNOW because he doesn't actually SAY so in the article. That's what I'm trying to say.

"Eat it, fanboys."

What's more pathetic than a bunch of fanboys liking a movie that is thought of as bad by the director (as a side not let's not forget he mentions the writer's strike)? A bunch of haters that spend all their time talking about it.

It's a free country and you can waste your time any way you choose but it's funny that you're just failing to do anything productive.

Idiots think analysis is magic. Michael Bay ruined those individuals' childhoods.

i saw the transformers only because i remember the toys when i was 8 years old, i don;t live in america, so i didn;t watch at all any cartoon or stuff like that.

my points is that the first one was ok, the second one i did;t like at all.
I didn;t understand what was going on and in general i had big expectations. Well for a 800 million gross, i think this is a movie that should be better.

my husband told me, that the every second and a explotion is the director's style.
So i don;t know if the writers mess it up or not, i just think i don;t like the director's style.

most of the movies that sold that much, i like and i enjoy a lot. This one is not good enough for me.

reply

I'm still waiting for him to say almost all of his movies are crap. One can only hope.

reply

hey, 'the rock' was a cool flick..that and bad boys 1 are the only movies of his i actually like...and only because it's good now and then to watch an entertaining action film..but just don't expect to have to use your brain a whole lot..
