MTV killed Shannara

I understand things need to change when a great classic book gets adapted to TV. But this is ridiculous. Power? Music? A dance? This is just awful

To each their own.

Really cringe worthy, some kindergarten squeaky clean LA kids in a fantasy... MTV tut tut...

Funny thing? I owe a lot to the tv show.
I postponed for many years the shannara chronicles, so when I read that the tv show was going to be produced I finally decided to begin reading from the first book of the serie. I was so into it that I read the first 3 books in a couple of weeks. And then... then I finally downloaded the first tv episode, and I stopped watching it after the first 15 minutes, as soon as I realized it was nowhere alike the book. I was expecting something epic like lotr or game of thrones: minor changes to the original plot (well, GoT exaggerated in the last two but still..), but same basics. Instead the story in the show has been transformed in some king of Divergent movie... and that's really, really disappointing.
I'm now reading the First King Of Sannara, and I'm quite sure that I'm not gonna stop till the end of the serie.

Wait, I'm confused. Didn't they greenlight a second season? Doesn't that mean the show has good ratings, the opposite of getting 'killed'?

reply

MTV killed Shannara the same way Michael Bay killed Transformers; by being unfaithful to the source material. I read Elfstones of Shannara over a decade ago. The Shannara Chronicles acts like an adaptation and it is but barely. MTV didn't kill the series it killed the hopes of a faithful adaptation.

Shannara would have made a nice girls name once. Not now.

hey imagine being named Shannara by your parents before this show was made, and then this show came along and made your name look utterly stupid for the rest of your life.

I agree. I even stopped reading the new books. Brooks is a sellout. Lost all respect to him.

reply

Agreed. Should have been on a better and bigger network.
