MTV killed Shannara
I understand things need to change when a great classic book gets adapted to TV. But this is ridiculous. Power? Music? A dance? This is just awful

shareThat's an understatement.
shareI understand things need to change when a great classic book gets adapted to TV.
I think the screenwriters did that.
shareI have no idea. They always do that. If you don't like the book then don't make it into a show/movie. If you DO like the book then why change everything for no reason?
Thats why Lord of the Rings turned out so good, because Peter Jackson didn't try to rewrite the whole story.
except for the end of the lord of the rings right>? you have read the book right? you don't just reference things without prior knowledge of what you are referencing?
peter Jackson destroyed the end of the lord of the rings. its supposed to end showing character growth amongst 4 small hobbits who grew into the largest heroes in the land. going home to find their friends and family in grave peril at the hands of the enemy they saved everyone else from. making an uprising and toppling the oppressive . to say peter Jackson didn't change anything is the biggest joke ever. its artistic interpretation just like shannara.
this show, while lacking in the lustre of a big money production ( GoT , LoTR ) did very well. and to see some of my favorite characters on the screen was a huge deal .
Yes i've read the books. More than once.
I didn't consider the ending a big deal. To me that part wasn't important. How does their character growth compare to saving the entire world? To me it was an epilogue and the story should have ended earlier.
They didn't save the entire world on the show. In the books there is an endless supply of demons. On the show 1 leaf on the tree = a demon. So how many leafs are there? 100 000? 500 000? Either way the demons will eventually get wiped out. Basically they are just a threat for a few years until they get killed off.
shareI was referring to Lord of the Rings.
shareI generally liked the show. But I know it has a lot of flaws. These fantasy shows need to stick with the genre more and not deviate to doing teen drama. Too much.
shareI think at first it was actually pretty good(first episode) but from there on it turned into some cheesy teenage love story(ie puppy love). That part just felt way too cringeworthy for my taste and stopped watching after episode 4. Maybe the show got better, I honestly do not know but I seriously doubt it.
shareIt got worse. A LOT worse. In one episode they are watching a Star Trek movie. Not kidding. Somehow they got a hold of a 3000 year old dvd or something and sat down and watched it.
shareHave you watched all the Shannara Episodes or just heard of references? You don't seem to know how the story unfolded and why.... so why are talking falsely in this comment and your other comments.
shareYes I know the story. I have also read all of the other books as well.
The show is different, of course. TV is a different medium than a book. But the show breaks its own logic time and time again. That is why it sucks hard.
The episodes were good as long as they stuck to the story. When they started trying to make it up for themselves they failed miserably. Their writers are just nowhere near as good as Terry Brooks and these were his best books.
All the parts where you go 'thats cool' was the stuff from the books. All the stuff where you go 'that's *beep* retarded' is stuff they made up that is NOT in the books.

It might not follow the originals, but it does follow it as a whole. The newer books talks about these places as it is based on our world. If you read the Genesis books you see this. And they did have old places like a Dam from what I remember in some later books.
It is not exact... But it would not work on TV if it was. This is ok, not the best but it is ok
