Why’d He Kill That Kid?

Reading through this slog, I may as well ask a valid question that actually had to do with the episode that was just shown. So, ok I’ll bite. Who is that guy supposed to be and why did he kill the poor child? Because he ruined their pre wedding ceremony with his stupid toy running amok? What’s the hubbub bub? Was it actually dangerous? Or just an embarrassment? Pretty big price to pay for being a brat. What say you all?

To stop the eugenics plans the bene gesserit had planned. He was engaged to the princess.. and their kids would have the prophecized DNA to continue the “line for centuries”. I guess this about breeding people until they get their perfected DNA messiah, the kwitsatz hadderach.

They saw the boy's family as a threat because the dad was making too many demands of the Corrinos to try and seize power through political encroachment. Also, intelligent machines were banned after the Butlerian Jihad, so for a child to be found playing with a toy that had an AI in it was breaking a serious law that demanded absolutely NO AI tech, and all who openly used such tech be put to death.

It was a combination of selective technophobia, as well as remembering that the Machine Crusades had its roots begin long ago when people first used AI in toys and it led to other tech that slowly grew into the intelligent robots that led to the gigantic, galaxy-wide massacre.

You're welcome. The Dune franchise and the lore is fascinating to read about if you like complex sci-fi writing. Brian Herbert took up where his dad left off and wrote backstories to the series his dad originally wrote, so we'd get an idea of how humanity got to where they were by Paul's time, and frankly, it's a very rich, unique universe to learn about. There is so much material both Brian and Frank wrote that could be made into Dune movies if the people in Hollywood can get past doing the main Paul stories.

Thanks for commenting. I understood why he killed the boy, but did they explain why the Asian Sister, the Emperor's Truthsayer (sorry, forgot her name), also was burned to death remotely? Was she mentally linked with the boy somehow?
