Sandra Bullock too old for Ryan Reynolds. Who should have been Margaret?

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but, while I enjoyed this movie, I was distracted by the 12 year age difference between Margaret and Andrew. I think Sandra Bullock is too mature, now, for these types of frivolous fluff movies. I could think of a lot of younger actresses, maybe a few years older than Ryan Reynolds, who could have done as well or better playing Margaret. Emily Blunt, Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz, Mila Kunis. Just a short list. Who do you think would have been a better fit?

Ummmm, the age difference was kind of a plot point.

This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.

Had to be someone older, it was a good choice for the 2 actors.

^^ I agree. Their on-screen chemistry is amazing! And I love how they argue with each other :)

And Cameron Diaz??? Ew, no. Sandra is perfect in this role. Even though she plays an uptight woman, she doesn't come off as a snob at all, the way Kate Hudson might have. And I'm kind of sick of seeing Kate Hudson in these kinds of roles - she needs to get into some drama for a change. She was great in "Skeleton Key".

I see no issue at all in their age. You guys make it sound like they've got their age tattooed on their forehead.
Can you seriously imagine any of those teenager actresses playing the boss or Ryan Reynolds? Seriously?`I can't understand people that have age problems of this kind with the gender relationship here.
What's next? Betty White too old to be in pictures?
If you don't want to see a woman like Sandra Bullock naked, I suggest you stick to reading Vogue.

reply

Nonsense. You were only distracted because you knew the age difference in advance. I thought throughout the age difference wasn't apparent and she was the boss which would suggest usually an age difference anyway.

reply

I did not read all the thread and probably someone already told what I'm about to say. I think that the age difference give a certain credibility to the fact that she's her boss. I know there's young bosses too as mine is not that much older then me. Anyway, Sandra Bullock is charming! And she do stuck up bitch well enough that I can easily believe she can be in real life hehehe

reply

Jesus.

Male stars in their 70s still get paired with leading ladies 40 years their junior, but Bullock is too old?

No.

reply

Until I looked at this thread I hadn't realised that there was such an age difference between the 2 actors, so I certainly don't think that Sandra was too old for Ryan....

In fact she looks great both in this movie and later in Gravity, so she is aging really well.

She gets a 9/10 on my "yummy" scale any day.

that's one of the better things about this movie

Im 26 and I find the woman completely beautiful. I would have easily dated her at the time this movie was made. How successful the relationship would have been it beyond me but i would have given it a chance.

When the movie was filmed Reynolds was thirty-one and Bullock was forty-three but looked several years younger. She didn't seem too old, and he didn't seem too young. Without her, the movie wouldn't have been half as good.
