How slow did Denzel Washington's character walk?

If he took 30 years to carry the Bible from the East to the West coast, and what does his overtly long timeframe represent metaphorically?

Yes I thought that sounded unlikely so I googled it. It would take 6 months to walk across america appartenly. So Denzel must have been walking 60 times slower than normal 😊

Well, he is blind, even experienced blind folks would have a rough time walking across country
There would be obstacles, Bridges out, roads blocked
Got to have food and water, can't be that easy finding edible, or drinkable
There is the weather, Blizzards, hurricanes, what ever else that changed with the war

but 30 years does seem excessive
